A very common game played by the Northern Cheyenne is called Shinny. There are 2 stakes driven into the ends of the fields. The goal of the game is for each team to drive the shinny ball through the two stakes. Each goal is a "game." The object is to win as many "games" as possible before the time runs out. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/c4/1c/3e/c41c3e481cba2bd8bb10e8799033a93d.jpg

Wojapi (Dakota Berry Sauce)
Makes about 4 cups.

- 4 cups blueberries or chokecherries, fresh or frozen

- 1-2 tablespoons cornstarch or arrowroot

- maple syrup

- 1/4 cup water

Directions: In a saucepan, simmer berries and water over low heat, stirring occasionally. Using fresh berries, you may need more water to keep them from scorching. Once the berries are turned into a sauce, spoon out some sauce and whisk in a thickener. Fresh berries should need 1 tablespoon, frozen might need 2 tablespoons thickener. Whisk until completely dissolved, then add back to the rest of the sauce. Sweeten the taste with maple syrup. Now serve on cornbread or ice cream.

Citation: Roberts E., Michael.

The Northern Cheyenne originally lived in the Great Lakes region. During the 15th century, they migrated westward, shifting their subsistence living from fishing to agriculture.
The government tried to force the Northern Cheyenne to merge with their original enemy, the Crow. They government finally gave them their own reservation in 1884.
The Northern Cheyenne economy is centered on farming, ranching, and small businesses. The reservation hosts small textile businesses, and the Northern Cheyenne operates a coal mine and a casino. Despite these businesses 45% of the tribal people are jobless.
Citation:
http://www.nativepartnership.org/site/PageServer?pagename=airc_res_mt_northerncheyenne

The Northern Cheyenne Tribe Reservation is located in southeastern Montana. The tribe owns over 444,000 acres of the reservation. Long ago, their chief was Two Moons. The tribe has dedicated a monument to him at the Little Big Horn Battle spot, that you can visit in Busby, Montana.
The Northern Cheyenne Tribe had built a college, Chief Dull Knife College, in 1884. Most of the degrees are in only arts and sciences.
Major employers enter jobs that include schools, the federal government, tribe government, power companies, and construction companies. The lower educational systems include farming, ranching, and small businesses that build the economy.

Citation: Brady Rae, Roni.
