I’m reproducing the selected item, because when my dad had passed away, this is one of the only items I have to remember him by. This hat (Brother Rice) is the all boys high school that he attended, where he was a crazy good athlete. He also had met my mom in high school from a friend, so that was kind of cute as well. 

My technical approach was kind of all over the place, I had never worked with wire before.. So it was just kind of all around a learning experience. I pieced every part of the structure together, first starting with the base of the hat, and working my way up. Then i went to the bill of the hat, and lastly making the numbers (1960), because it's when his dad had graduated high school, therefore it was his hat.

I was trying to emphasize the year he graduated because that’s what was most significant to me, anyone could have that hat, but the year his dad had graduated has a special meaning to both him and I. It was important for me to make the lines/crease of the hats base going up darker wire, because if you look closely at the seams of the hat, it’s very noticeable.
