Assessment of learning takes place every day. Not all assessment is formal or summative. Effective teachers are assessing the progress and understanding of each student each day.

We are using the IM Math Curriculum for the first time and I love whenever we come across a lesson that I can blow up in to a project to assess my students learning. The first one was the Design a Tent project in our first unit where we were finding surface area. The students had to design a tent and use what they know about surface area to find out how much fabric they would need to make their tents. They worked with a partner to create a presentation and had the option to create a 3D model of their tents.
