The stations provide raw materials up close. The students can touch and manipulate them at their convenience. The teacher can easily hold up on object from a station to discuss and its likely the students have had some contact with it or can immediately following classtime.
2. The stations tend to be young for the classes I usually teach but students still llike "science" items around. I do rotate the materials to keep them coming back. I also like to incorporate items the students bring in to class.

The value in using the Exploration stations for science is that students are able to connect with others. They can share ideas, ask questions and clarify what they are thinking. The stations only allow a certain number of students, so they have a more opportunity to voice their thoughts. It also allows the teacher to listen to many groups and hear the thoughts of most of the students instead of just one or two.

The best tip I have for setting up Exploration Stations is to model how you want students to move from each place and model how the students are supposed to "work" at the stations. I have only done stations but cannot wait to try what I have seen in the videos. It is really a lot like Daily 5. You also will need time to set up your stations. I have not taught any of this unit yet, so I don't have a podcast.

The more students explore and question the world, the deeper their understandings of topics. I like the idea of several stations with different materials to all investigate the same question. My tip is an oldie but a goodie....make sure students know expectations and practice them before they are turned loose in exploration stations!

Exploration stations are valuable because they they ofter students a way to learn using hands on activities and in small groups as well as work and explore independently. The best tip I have for setting up an exploration station is to have easy and understandable directions, it needs to be open ended so they cannot be "done" but there are lots of things to do explore and experiment with. Clear expectation of behavior and clean up are also essential to keep in running smoothly.

I think the hands on learning will be a really beneficial tool for learning this material. It is an opportunity for students to work in smaller groups and express their ideas while completing the tasks that will lead to the success of the unit. It should give students a positive feeling to get these task down as a group and independently. The teacher can oversee them from a distance to help instill some confidence within the students and science. I would love to set up these stations. I think it would be so cool and look forward to that chance someday. I thinks its important to stay focused and keep creative while fostering independent learning and great classroom learning.

Exploration stations are hands on learning stations. Every good classroom has many opportunities for this kind of activity to help kids strive and learn science and actually you could incorporate this into math, social studies, anything you want - unlimited possibilities with exploration stations. It also gives kids the chance to do hands-on learning and thinking. This type of learning helps kids to try, discover, fail, rethink, relearn, and overall overcome some obstacles such as failing but in the end to succeed.

Jackson voice for effect, for my pretend podcast here:
1. The value in using Exploration Stations in Phenomenal Science is that you are using hands on approaches to keep students engaged and learning. This also allows for variety in student learning as they transition to the different stations.
2. I think it's important to keep the groups small so every student has an opportunity to participate.

One Exploration Station I am actually currently using is an observation station of our flower plants that we planted in class. Students chart their observations and talk about these observations and questions. Students are amazed each week at how much their plant grows. We even had one teacher that planted a flower from seed, but nothing happened. We talked about what happened, what was different, and why this may have happened. The value is Science Explorations is that it helps students collaborate, question, and think. It can also be used with literacy, math, and other subjects to save on time. I think the best tip is to be prepared with lots of materials to start your class on Science Explorations.

One exploration station I have used in the past involves whether a seed a living thing. Students are allowed to try to grow a popcorn seed using an investigation they develop. Throughout the following week students observe any changes that occur with the popcorn seed in different situations. This offers great discussion on the movement of matter and energy and what is considered living and nonliving within an ecosystem. The value of an exploration station is that students are able to do science.

My Podcast was not working properly, below is my responses.

Exploration stations
1 What is the value in using Exploration Stations with PS?

Exploration stations in Science allow students to take what they know and independently build on that knowledge. When the stations are set up in a way that fosters and steers the students toward the desired learning goal the students will find the correct answer and have that brilliant aha moment on their own. Giving them the gift of Exploration stations not only allows them the time, space and materials to draw their own conclusions it also allows for collaborative work and idea building. No matter how old or young the ability to work with a team or group of others on a joint task always improves the outcome.

2. What is the best tip you have for setting up Exploration Stations in your classroom?

The best tip I can give for setting up stellar Exploration Stations is do your prep work. 1st prep the materials and plan out where and how each station will be and how long it should take. 2nd Prep the students to be able to have the skills to work at these type of stations positively. Not every student will come to you with the skills to do this right away. You will have to lay out your expectations and practice until you know they understand what they need to do.

They are a great place for students to dig deep and to question and wonder. Best tips for creating the exploration stations is to be sure you do the prep work and have all the materials students will need at each station. The stations should take a relatively equal amount of time to complete. And most importantly, setting up guidelines and expectations and MODELING what you expect from students while they are at the stations is key to making them successful in your classroom.
