Roscón de Reyes is called Ring of the Kings. It is traditionally eaten on January 6th, during the celebration of the Día de Reyes (literally "Kings' Day"), which commemorates the arrival of the three Magi or Wise Men. Dried and candied fruits, cherries, quinces or figs are used for decoration. In Spain, pastry shops hide a small figure inside the cake. Whoever finds this toy is crowned king or queen of the celebration. The doll figure symbolizes the hiding of the infant Jesus from King Herod’s troops.

Día de los Reyes Magos is called Day of the Magi Kings. It is celebrated on January 6th and is also called the Epiphany. The holiday represents the coming of the three Magi to the stable when Jesus was born. During Día de Los Reyes, Mexicans serve Rosca de Reyes, or King’s Cake. Children in Latin America and Spain receive the majority of their gifts from the Three Kings rather than from Santa Claus at Christmas. Before going to bed, the children place their old shoes with a wish list on top for the Three Kings. In the morning, the shoes are filled with toys and gifts from the Three Kings.

The Christmas Posadas are the nine (9) days leading up to Christmas Eve. They begin on December 16th and end on the 24th. As part of the Christmas celebration, traditional fiestas called Mexican posadas (inns) are held for family, friends, and neighbors. A posada is the reenactment of the Census pilgrimage to Bethlehem by Mary and Joseph (los peregrinos) in search of a room. From December 16th through December 24th, Mexican families customarily hold a posada party one evening in each of their homes.

Noche Buena, for Latin American cultures, is often the biggest feast for the Christmas season and is the annual Spanish tradition. Noche Buena (literally "the Good Night") is the Spanish word for Christmas Eve. In Spain, Latin America, and the Philippines, the evening consists of a traditional family dinner. Roasted pig, or lechón is often the center of Noche Buena for feasts around the world. It is believed that the tradition dates back to the 15th century when Caribbean colonists hunted down pigs and roasted them with a powerful flame.

Nochevieja is the Spanish term for New Years Eve. Latinos celebrate New Years a little differently then we do. One thing that they do is they wear a lot of brightly colored wigs, masks and costumes. They also drink a lot of champagne, especially at midnight when they toast to the new year. The final tradition is the twelve grapes. When midnight strikes, you have to rapidly pop those twelve grapes – one for each chime of the clock – in your mouth. If you successfully complete the feat, twelve months of prosperity and good luck await you.
