I'm a librarian and since I don't have a regular subject, but only certain groups of students, it's most practical for me to carry out a project with them. The age of the participants and the adaptation of these difficult topics to their psychological levels are very important.

The sustainability is difficult topic (or consequences of unsustainable behavior) and it is senseless to cause emotional overload to the students. As in every other area we teach, it is more important to provide information carefully and adapted.

Participating in projects is one of the best ways to teach sustainability. Every year I coordinate a project on eTwinning that is related to specific SDGs. I already have a plan for a project in the new school year :-)

Engaging with local communities and working on real sustainability projects can provide valuable experiential learning opportunities.

Teachers and students from our school participated in the activity organized by Tășuleasa Social - Good day on Via Transilvanica. It was an action to green the tourist route known both in Romania and abroad.

We formed a group of students called the Green Embassy and they do peer education - they organize workshops for other students (for example: creating Christmas decorations from reusable resources), challenges (like Zero Waste Day, a Week of Green Mobility, etc.) and they also control how the waste is separated in the classrooms.

In a project about 6 goal (Ensure access to water and sanitation for all) I attributed to students this task: find people around the world who already act to fulfill this goal. They was pleased when they found a lot of people that made big things in this direction, even from our country. Made presentation about their findings and presented to all the colleagues.

I like to use the project-based method with the use of technology because I believe in experiential learning. This way lots of skills can be improved and it is also engaging. Moreover, we often organise trips to Zero waste shops and nature trails where our students can get first hand experiences and answers to their questions.

Problem based learning works well with my studente. They think about their closest environment, so they can find the problems and work on the possible solution, so Reflective practice too.

Collaborative projects and teamwork, not only in our class but also in our Erasmus projects, sharing activities and ideas with students from other european countries.

Workshops with experts help a lot too and we have an former student that is a prestigious nature expert and communicator, so he comes to his school to work with the new generations.

I've just ended an eTwinning project about water, whose title was "Clear, cool and sweet waters" from a line by the Italian poet Petrarch in "Il Canzoniere". Starting from an interdisciplinary approach, an eTwinning project with Turkey and Portugal was carried on: students met their foreign partners wjìhile dealing with the importance of saving and not wasting water as a precious resourse of ours. They learned sustainability while connecting at distance and having fun because of interaction with international new friends.

I have worked with several etwinning projects about sustainability and they have been very successful, The implication of the students, the interaction with others and the action, that is being the main characters for the change.

I've tried different approaches to address sustainability. I really like to do it by participating in eTwinning projects, especially when we try to follow a PBL approach, for instance:

Eco-citizens for future - driving question "Can the world as you know it still be saved?". You can also read the ebook with the resume of the project.
Dade’s journey of change - driving question How do teenagers face 21st-century challenges?
European gastronomy - eat green & change tomorrow - driving question "How does our diet contribute to Climate Change?"

As the driving question was created involving the students and they are collaborating with students from other schools their motivation to learn increases. We have also done some academic debates about these topics and students love it.

Here the link of an eTwinning project runned some years ago with 1st graders: the pupils were deeply involved and motivated and during the next years we have kept up the good habits leart during that project (cleaning up the garden, planting new trees, separate waste and work on healthy eating...) and added some more, such us the educational garden.
