This series is about a futuristic Chicago where the city is divided into five factions. Each faction has its own role in society. When teenagers turn 18, they take a test to assess which faction would suit them best, and many use this test to make their final choice of where they'll belong for the rest of their life. But what happens if the test comes out inconclusive, which is exactly what the government doesn't want? I love this series and definitely recommend it if you like the dystopian genre with a hint of romance and action.

The Wretched of the Earth is an extremely important political analysis. It is an analysis on revolutionary decolonization movements, focusing on the struggles that colonized peoples face under occupation, recognizing the necessity of resistance against oppressive regimes. It talks about the nationalism of the oppressed, the problems a country faces after a successful de-colonial revolution, the strategies that should be employed and how freedom fighters should meet the people. It is a book that could challenge the views of some on race, on national liberation and national liberation struggles, Fanon's analysis transformed a lot of my views and I'm sure it can transform the views of a lot of others. I would highly recommend it.

This fantasy series is a great story for young and old readers alike. Ranger's Apprentice is about a 15-year-old boy named Will who has been selected to become an apprentice to a scout corps, the Rangers. The series starts in the Kingdom of Araluen, fifteen years after the defeat of the exiled Morgarath and his wretched Wargals. Now that his return has been rumored and feared, the fate of the kingdom slowly starts to rest on Will's hands. The novel explores the concept of friendship, discipline, patience, persistence, and courage. Ranger's Apprentice is an excellent fantasy series for any reader and I would recommend reading this franchise! 10/10

"The Tattooist of Auschwitz" is a historic novel based on a true story. The novel tells the story of Slovakian Jew Lale Sokolov and his journey as a prisoner in the concentration camp Auschwitz.
Fair warning: this book is not for the light- hearted. The novel describes the stories and memories Lale told Heather Morris as she interviewed him for the novel. Many prisoners were tortured, starved, mistreated, and killed. The day to day life in Auschwitz is described and it is remarkable to read about Lale's motivations and how he survived it all.
If you enjoy historical texts-- and have a tough stomach-- you should consider this novel! If you like this book, you may want to consider Heather Morris' trilogy of true Holocaust stories which includes this book, "Cilka's journey", and "Three Sisters".

This series follows Sophie Foster, a young girl from California who learns that she's actually an elf! But elves aren't like cookie elves OR Santa's elves, they're like super-smart humans with super powers. That could explain why Sophie has telepathic powers . . . One day she meets another elf named Fitz who takes her to a land called the Lost Cities, which is where the elves call home, sheltered away from humans. She learns that she is born from an elf experiment by a mysterious group called the Black Swan who hope to end the wrongs of Elvin society! She is forced to leave California and live in the Lost Cities to keep humans safe. There she uncovers her powers, her past, new friends, and the dark secrets that the Elvin Council has been keeping from society. The series is currently 9 books long (though the last to be released wasn't a full book) and two more books are scheduled.

Down near the docks, many have taken ill, and the fatalities are mounting. Now they include Polly, the serving girl at the Cook Coffeehouse. But fourteen-year-old Mattie Cook doesn't get a moment to mourn the passing of her childhood playmate. New customers have overrun her family's coffee shop, located far from the mosquito-infested river, and Mattie's concerns of fever are all but overshadowed by dreams of growing her family's small business into a thriving enterprise. But when the fever begins to strike closer to home, Mattie's struggle to build a new life must give way to a new fight—the fight to stay alive.

Jeannette writes about how she grew up with her 3 siblings, her alcoholic father, and her 'free-spirited' mother. It's a very emotional story that I would highly recommend. There's also a movie based on the book..

The author's poetic writing style and ability to capture something that other writers would take multiple pages for in just a few sentences perfects the story for me. If you plan to read it, make sure to finish it up at home because the ending is a real tearjerker. The Song of Achilles is the perfect, gut wrenching novel, the type that leaves an empty void once you finish. Enjoy!

Despite the book seeming dark by the bland description, it is a really easy book to read with an amazing sense of humor. It's part of a series of books, each fairly short, but each is a good read.

I really like this book and would reccommend it to anyone who likes mystery and romance. The story follows Kay, the star soccer player at her school. After a girl's body was found in the river, Kay recieves an email from anonymous source. She then must follow a scavenger hunt to find the true killer. Very dark academia vibe, with elements that are similar to Riverdale, Pretty Little Liars, and Gossip Girl.
