Grade: 4th grade
Topic: Coordinates (Maths)
Type of visual organizer: Grid
Description of the activity: Battleship game.
Students must draw some ships (the ones they have next to it
with different length) in the first grid. Then, they must use the second grid
to draw and discover their opponents’ ships.
To do so, they must use coordinates, for example (A,1,) and
then say WATER or TOUCHED depending if they have a ship there or not. Once one
opponent touched all the ship they must say SUNK. The winner is the one who
guesses all the ships first or the one that finishes with more ships without
sinking.
Why is this visual organizer helpful? this visual organizer helped us to introduce the coordinates
topic in class in a more ludic way. Apart from that,
students could really feel the need of use English language
to communicate. When we finished that game, it was much easier to transfer that
to a coordinate grid.

Grade: 2nd grade Secondary School
Topic: English language
Type visual organizer: story map
Justification: students are learning how to use the past tenses (past continuous & past simple), so in pairs they must write a nice fictional story. Before they start writing, students must fill in the story board as a brainstorming activity. They need to come up with the characters, the setting where the story will take place, the problem that the characters will tackle throughout the story and a possible solution. This introductory activity helps students organize and plan their ideas before they write the actual story.
