The same thing happens every time, the leader of a nation gives direction to go explore and they end up raiding instead. I know this because in the Hernan Cortes story his leader told him to not go, they went to Cuba for gold and glory.  Also in Portugal leads the way, it says that many nations went to the new world to look for silver and gold. The passage also says that they were also looking for spice routes, it doesn't say any where that they went for discovery purposes. It even says that Christopher Columbus was looking for trade routes, so for someone that is known for discovering a place didnt even go because he wanted to discovery he went to for resources. Then he enslaved a lot of the natives that were there.
