The society at the World State has been conditioned and controlled to be a certain way by pleasure. Ever since they were young, they have been conditioned and made to fulfill a happiness that has been controlled by the World State through a drug called "soma." This drug induces a form of relaxation and pleasure when people feel a certain type of emotion that overwhelms them because they are not used to having feelings. They also do a ritual called the "Orgy- Porgy" which is also controlled by pleasure because the people need something to channel their emotions and momentarily prepare to lose their unique identities. The World State also wants them to have no feelings because they believe that it could dehumanize them, making them weaker and unstable. This could be seen in our society today because people are constantly taking drugs to avoid any emotions that arises so they can minimize any negative feelings for emotions. In the World State, they also are conditioned to sleeping around with others by having no boundaries since they believe that "everyone is for every body" because they think that being in a committed relationship threatens stability. The World State also controls there people through pleasure because once they are made, they are made to be destined for a certain thing and controlled to be happy and perfect at all times. These people do not understand the difference between humanity and being controlled because they have been conditioned to feel no forms of emotions and to tell from what's right and what's wrong.

In today's world, there is a constant barrage of entertainment that is making us passive and self-centered. Things such as social media and online entertainment contribute to this notion. In the World State, technology has advanced them to have things such as "feelies," movies that make you feel like you are in the movie itself. The movies also teach the citizens to like and dislike certain things. These themes from the movies make the people believe certain things and stick to those beliefs, such as thinking nature is disgusting and disease ridden. Also, in John's case when his mother died, the children go to observe what is happening and think nothing of it. They are very passive in this moment and don't show any sympathy for John. Soma is also a large contributor to the entertainment of their society. People take it to have fun and prevent any type of negative feeling the have instead of going with the emotions. Much like in society today, people rely on rugs to entertain themselves and experience happiness. The way people look, specifically clothes, also determine what others think of you in today's society as well as in the World State. They believe that more holes mean that you are poor and can't get nice new clothes. All these aspects drawn from the quotes can be used to support today's main source of entertainment, social media and the Internet.
