Dear Mildred,
I am writing you to let you know you have made an enormous mistake. I have realized that you don't have enough of an open mindset to allow my words to move you, but by allowing our home to be burned, you allowed them to burn the books. The amazing pieces of literature I was able to take. You allowed the potential the pages had, the ideas, the phenomenal rush of reading all to be burned to the ashes because of what society claims about them. They are wrong. The firemen are wrong. The government is wrong. They try to limit our thoughts by disposing of the books but in these books lie hope, ideas that could really save us all. The feeling of reading is a feeling I cannot describe. My new allies have taught me the ways of literature and we now hope to rebuild society with it. The books have taught me to see this life in a different perspective. I cannot tell you why they want to burn them all, but I can tell you it is wrong. This technology we have created has not uplifted us, but subverted us. After seeing the way you were treated even after overdosing made me realize that this technology is making people not care about others, to be more selfish and more nonchalant towards the real problems we are all facing. We hold the power of knowledge in our minds and I will not continue to allow anyone to limit the power of my thoughts or my intellectuality. I have been working as a fireman for 10 years and i have only now realized that this is an unjust way to live. So Mildred, if you decide that you may be open to this concept, or if you even read this letter, please join us. It may not seem like the right thing to do right now, but I promise you that you will die with more pride in yourself knowing you fought for what's right.

Sincerely,

Guy Montag

I saw him walking home from what I assume was a long day of work. He is my neighbour, Guy Montag. I see the badge on his arm, but I don't see the pride in his face. How could I. I watched him as he walked and I wondered to myself. Does he know what he is doing is pointless? Does he understand the consequences of what he does everyday? Is this what he thinks life is supposed to be? He stares at the moonlight. It's almost as if he gets a glimpse of reality. I can see in his eyes for a split second that he knows this life is not about what we can limit, but what we can achieve. I walked to him and i told him how I felt about the things he does. He probably thought i was crazy. As we walked I told him about my perspective on life and how I am not afraid of him or any fireman. I arrived to my home, and as I walked up to doorsteps, I knew that this conversation would be the beginning of an epiphany for Guy Montag. I could see in the way he walked on that he was thinking hard about our conversation and i could see that he had realized his purpose. I never would have thought i could influence this, but i believe this may be the beginning of a massive turning point in Guy Montag's life.

The following message is to be received and read by GUY MONTAG. The following message is to be kept personal and confidential.

Guy Montag, you are a traitor to your Chief and your society. You are no longer welcome to act as a fireman if you do choose to return and upon arrival you will be taken into custody immediately by law enforcement. You shall not bare the symbol of 451. You have been charged with rebellious criminal activity, and murder of Chief Beatty, head of the fire department team. We have also spoken with your wife who claims that she believes you are mentally ill and are in need of medical support. We advise you to turn yourself in, which may alter you sentences.

Our regards,

LAPD
