Location: 4888 One Loop Central, Suite 200 Houston, TX, 77081
Dates: Every Monday and Thursday of Summer
Cost: Volunteered Work

Description: This summer, as well as every summer, they hold a summer program for kids/teens with disabilities. In the summer program, the kids/teens go from Monday through Thursday, 8/9 am-2:35/5 pm. We, the teachers and volunteers, have activities prepared for the kids/teens to do throughout the day.

Reflection & Takeaways: Although I had some experience before, being a part of this program this summer helped me really see the pros and cons to this career. Things that I definitely had to learn whether I liked it or not was having a lot of patience as well as having to put my OCD aside. Working in this field is definitely not an easy job and it takes a lot of energy and passion to be in it. The good takeaway from this experience was the kids as well as it helping me figure out what I want to possibly pursue my career in.

Visual Evidence:
(pic of the kids on water day)

Location: 5555 Hermann Park Dr, Houston, TX 77030
Dates: August 9, 2018
Cost: $3

Description: Visited the Butterfly Center as well as the the new exhibit they had, Death by Natural Causes. Also took a small tour through the dinosaurs before they closed.

Reflection & Takeaways:
Educational wise, for the butterfly portion of the trip, I got good recap on not only all the gross insects there is on the planet but also the hundreds of kinds of butterflies that there possibly is. Its a really nice experience to go through the open area where the butterflies are freely moving around you. For the new exhibit they had, it was really interesting to know that there is so many ways of death possible all around you, not saying that anything you do now will lead you to death. Many people died from just small things like allergies or animal attacks or diseases. Something that struck out to me the most was that more people die from a car than they do from a bike. You'd think that you'd get into more accidents and injuries in a bike.

Visual Evidence:
(pic of the tickets)

I think the bigger portion of this trip had more to do with bonding than focusing on the art. One piece that did stick out to me, but I forgot to get the name down, was one where they showed the stages of the moon. The stages of the moon were portrayed through a series of different pictures all put together, but what made me interested was that I never noticed the moon was also moving depending on its stage until I looked away then looked back only to see it in a different spot.

Visual Evidence:
(pic of me at the museum)

Location: 3471 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77027
Dates: Every Friday
Cost: Volunteered Work

Description: The program runs every Friday, where parents bring their kids with all types of disabilities from 7-10 pm while they go out. In the program, we hold activities for the kids until they get picked up, works like a nightcare.

Reflection & Takeaways: For this program, I have been volunteering for almost two years, but a takeaway I definitely have is how amazing it is to watch how much growth a kid with disabilities can have over a couple of years. Although I had spent quite awhile in this program as a volunteer, it wasn't until recently when I realized that I wanted to work in this field. This program has helped me grow a bond with so many kids and it has been an honor.

Visual Evidence:
(pic of the kids watching a movie, sorry for the blurriness)
