We need to integrate Restorative Justice into out school culture starting with not jumping to conclusions. There is always so much more going on in someones life than you can see. I think that expulsion should not be a thing and that suspensions should be minimized. If someone acts up, there is likely a reason and taking them out of school will do nothing but harm their future. There should be a way to find people help and encourage them to try to fix the mistake they made.

Brittni Bryan: Language Arts and Special Education Teacher-- I don't have a "vision" per sey of Restorative Justice at BHS. I am very interested in learning more about restorative justice practices, and I definitely support replacing many punitive measures with conversations and learning opportunities for students AND teachers. I definitely agree that these communications can strengthen relationships and a community. I love the point from the video that behaviors are unmet needs-- as an SEL teacher, I can totally respect and understand that point. I think questions I have are how can we use restorative practices equitably amongst schools in SPS? And, what will restorative practices look like across a varied list of behaviors-- specifically maybe more dangerous behaviors because I do worry about safety at schools.
