Othello: The Moor and the general of the army, married to Desdemona. He is falling prey to Iago's plans to break up Desdemona and Othello, and to get Cassio killed. Since he blindly trusts Iago, he listens when he explains his perspective on Desdemona and Cassio's relationship.
Desdemona: The daughter of Brabantio, a senator. She is the wife of Othello, and unconditionally loves him. However, she believes that Cassio should get his job back, so she is defending him and making sure he gets rehired, which causes issues.
Michael Cassio: Former lieutenant of Othello, getting manipulated by Iago also. Is being accused of having an affair with Desdemona, Othello's wife.
Iago: Othello's trusted man. He did not get the promotion he felt he deserved, and instead the job was given to Cassio, so he wants revenge. He eventually becomes the lieutenant after he got Cassio drunk and caused a fight between Cassio and Roderigo, and Montano.
Emilia: The wife of Iago, and a friend of Desdemona.

"By the world,
I think my wife is honest and thinks she is not.
I think that thou art just and think thou art not." (III.iii.) This is where Othello and Iago are going back and forth. Othello believes Iago that she is cheating on him but also believes that Desdemona is faithful to him. This shows how extremely effective his manipulation is.
"I have a pain upon my forehead, here" (III.iii.) Othello is saying that he feels pain on his forehead to Desdemona because he does believe that Desdemona could be cheating on him with Cassio. They also believed horns grow on their heads when
someone does something unfaithful.
"Oh, blood, blood, blood! (III.iii.)" He has lost all control because of Iago's lies. He is preparing himself to attempt to convince himself that what Iago said was true and that murder is the correct option.

My biggest question is mainly what will happen next, but specifically with Cassio and Emilia. Cassio's life is at stake, and I am curious if Iago will actually do the deed. Emilia also gave Iago the handkerchief, so she might face some negative consequences from that as well, so I am also wondering what will happen to her.

The first theme is revenge. This theme is carried out through the whole book and is Iago's main purpose. This revenge drives his actions and how everything that happens in the play comes from Iago's plot against Othello.

1. Iago informs Cassio That Desdemona is speaking to Othello on his behalf.
- Iago states that he is going to think of a plan to take Othello to the side and have Cassio and Desdemona talk more in private. We later find out Iago wants to involve Othello and implant his suspicion of Desdemona and Cassio.

2. Othello was seen to be discharging his duties as governor of Cyprus and inspecting the fortifications.
- This displays how much authority Othello seizes with his role as the governor of Cyprus as a general. This also alludes to how later he loses it; this reinforces contrary images formed between an esteemed leader and an inane fool who engenders his own downfall.

3. Desdemona pleads with Othello to reinstate Cassio, and he agrees
- Othello is reluctant about Desdemona’s request but agrees to do so after all. Iago is planning to use Desdemona’s actions to establish suspicion in Othello’s mind.

4. Emilia gives Desdemona’s handkerchief to Iago, who says he will leave it in Cassio’s lodgings.
- This handkerchief is perceived as an extraordinarily prominent thing to Othello. It makes the Moor steer with poisonous suggestions that Iago has implanted and thinks Desdemona has provided her handkerchief to her new lover as he sees Cassio carrying it around.

The second theme is jealousy. This theme is prevelant througgout act 3 because Othello believes that Desdemona had betrayed him with Cassio. Jealousy forces his mind to such an obsession that eclipses hiscommon sense, respect for justice, and reason.
