After reading the horse article :
A horse provides a rhythmic movement which stimulates anterior, and posterior swinging movements, this movements of the horse encourage the PWD rider to achieve a proper balance, and posture. The horse, and those around provide the PWD rider a large spectrum of sensory, and motor input, AND horseback riding provide effective, and sensory stimulation for its PWD rider through variable, rhythmic, and repetitive movements of the horse. It is better than a machine stimulated, as the horse is actively moving and the PWD rider is constantly reacting to the horse' s movement, creating a real challenge to a PWD rider, unlike machine aided movements.
After this project module:
PWDs are not left alone. We are here to assist PWDs to make their lives more meaningful like normal persons. Thumbs up for all Singaporeans to do more to help PWDs :)0

As I am not a PWD, and have not much contact or involvement with PWDs patients, I didn't pay attention to the project or initiatives that the government/community have been doing to make the environment more inclusive for PWDs so that they have more opportunities and less barriers to do sports or be physically active. This module has helped me to understand and be more aware of the challenges of the PWDs, and learn to be more tolerant and accepting.

Greater awareness of a broader spectrum of inclusivity in the environment like now I am more conscious of PWD friendly features like pathways, sheltered walk ways and how Spore is becoming an inclusive society which is also a measure of a gracious society. Personally, from being just sympathetic, I now have better understanding of the challenges and issues faced by PWDs in society and am better equipped to actively support their inclusion by a perspective that their limitation arises more from our perceived limitation of their capacity and capability.

My takeaway from this project is learning to see things in the PDWs' perspective. Each individual's needs are different from one another. I also realised that there are many things that they are able to accomplished even with their disabilities. Understanding their difficulties in their daily life, help me to look into the resources that are actually available to them. Its our responsibility to bring awareness to them so that they can tap on it to utilised the resources.

When I first learnt about equestrian activity long ago, my thought was for the young schoolers to have an extra activity to learn about or for the PWD to enjoy a different interest to enhance their lifestyle and for those who can afford such expensive activity.

Now with understanding of hippotherapy / equestrian activity, they are not only helpful for the PWD but also inclusive for other groups of people such as Intellectual disabilities - Down’s Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder and any abled bodies from age 5 and above.

Just made an enquiry with RDA that they also offer free therapy for any abled elderly as well with no age limit if they are <60 kg. These help in relaxing their stiff joints and muscles. However, the waiting time could be up to 9 mths.

As such, greater awareness is encouraged to raise funds to provide more opportunities to our aging society and for the PWD. And to include volunteering to schools as part of their ECA points.

Finally, we must also be aware that these horses are retired, and they can't be overworked. Hence, we need more horses as the needs increase to shorten the waiting time.

Environment, social attitude, medication, equipment modification can be adjusted and changed to support PwDs. Apart from personal issues, the society and communities involved to understand the need of PwDs will make it more inclusive and successful to help the disabilities apart from infrastructure and facilities.
