         <description><![CDATA[<div>Perfectionism comes in so many forms, whether it reveals itself in needing to get the highest test score, win every race or game, or appear flawless every time you're in public. Having high standards is great, but if you are deeply emotionally affected by mistakes or losses, you're not only trashing opportunities to get better, but you're also running the risk of hurting those around you and encouraging the idea that winning is everything. Chase refers to it as "paralysis by analysis". <strong>Think about what area of your life is paralyzing you from enjoying good experiences or relationships because of your obsession with being perfect.</strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I feel called out honestly. I am indeed a perfectionist.  I am never good enough for me, I am always trying to improve. I rarely accept any job as one well done for myself because there are always flaws. By trying to constantly improve myself, I don't congratulate myself for the small battles won, or the small accomplishments achieved. My obsession with being perfect has hindered my happiness and my ability to grow. I think that everyone needs to set aside their ideas of perfection and rather enjoy their flaws because it makes them unique; I know I too need to try this. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I think that in society today, everyone tries to set unrealistic goals for themselves. We all want to find our place in the world and want to do something important with our lives, but we often let these unrealistic expectations control us. When we cannot meet these expectations, we tend to beat ourselves up about it, letting them destroy us. I am personally guilty of this. Additionally, I see the great things other people are doing and start comparing myself to them. This all creates a very destructive state of mind that can only be avoided by embracing who/where you are in your own live. Also embracing the fact that it is not only you that cannot be perfect, nobody can. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In today's world, everyone is always focused on being the best. What we need to focus on is being the best version of ourselves, rather than being better than others. I have this problem because of everything the media is constantly portraying, displaying people who are not perfect, as being perfect. This leads to comparisons, which greatly affects our society today. It is hard for us to go out into public and not compare ourselves, which leads to making the experience less enjoyable. The only way to fix this problem by realizing that no one is perfect and we are all equal and there are bigger things to focus on than our image and status.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Social media has evolved the need and ideas of perfectionism. Everyone wants to be noticed. But, in doing so, they compare themselves to others, trying to beat them and be more noticeable than them. One of the biggest problems in society today is the standards set by the media, making many feel insecure. On magazines, women and men are photo-shopped to look nearly perfect. This ultimately affects people's self-esteem and confidence. Everyone, including myself, is always trying to take that "insta-worthy" picture instead of spending time with friends or family. I think with this new media platform, people have lost that personal connection in desire of being/looking perfect online or to other people. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Although I wouldn't refer to myself as a perfectionist in all aspects of my life, there are definitely several things that I need to work on because they are starting to have significant negative effects on my daily life. One aspect that I particularly need to work on is obsessing over my weight. It is important to realize that weight is not always an accurate measure of health, in addition to the fact that it fluctuates almost daily. I would constantly  weigh myself multiple times a day, allowing it to consume my every thought. This helped me realize that I should stop these obsessive behaviors and shift my focus to other important aspects of my life.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>If I had to choose one area in my life that paralyzes me from actually enjoying the world and the people around me, I would probably choose the athletic aspect. Being a part of a sports team, I am constantly comparing myself to my teammates and wishing that I could be as talented as they are. Lately, I have been trying to accept the fact that it does not matter how well I compare to other people but what really matters is how well I compare to myself and how much I am personally improving. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>With today's technology it always seems like there are ways to change yourself or other people. This can be through Photoshop on a picture or plastic surgery. Then these people who change themselves post it on social media and expect us to look the same. This has changed the way people think about themselves on the outside and can send the message to not worry about who they are on the inside.  This can make people think that they have to have perfect skin, but not care about what grade they get on a test because "who cares about that" or "being smart won't help me get a boyfriend." They spend so much time on their looks that they do not have as much time to create a life for themselves.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Every morning when I wake up and get dressed I wonder if people think that the clothes I'm wearing are "weird." I'm sure other people also feel this way, so we all flock to fashion trends and the clothes that everyone else is also wearing. We strive to look perfect so as to avoid judgement, but if everyone embraced their own style, then no one would have anything to judge for. This can be applied to more than just clothes and vanity, but also personality. If everyone acts like themselves instead of trying to be perfect, we'd all feel a little more comfortable within ourselves and would be able to be perfectly imperfect in our own ways. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I think that we live in a world where we are all simply expected to be perfect and constantly getting better- getting stronger, getting smarter, getting faster, etc.  We rarely step back from our crazy lives and acknowledge the fact that there is no way that being perfect all day, everyday is even a possibility. When we live in a world where social media is a place where we escape our busy schedules, and yet we continue to see a faux perfection plastered everywhere, it is not healthy. We start to believe that we are never enough, whether it be physical appearance, strength, intelligence, or athletically. Personally, it is social media and the constant expectation to do better that causes me to be constantly obsessed with being perfect.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I think that almost everyone is a perfectionist. Everyone wants to be the best at everything. I think that sometimes being a perfectionist can be a good thing because it is something that motivates you to do your absolute best with whatever you do. But, being a perfectionist can be too much at some times. You want everything in your life to be perfect. You want the best grades, you want to be the best in your sports, and you want to be popular over social media or through your school. It is hard for people to realize that perfection is impossible. We still do our best to be perfect, but people need to realize that being perfect won't decide what happens in your future.</div>]]></description>
