There are a few benefits to being able to balance school life along with a job:

You can get more sleep which allows you to do better at both school and work.

Keeps your mental health stable, reducing stress, and increasing motivation.

Also just more time to be able to hangout with friends, do hobbies, and destress.

Not maintaining a good work-school balance is self explanatory in it's cons. It can lead to you failing in school, losing your job, overstress, no time, leading to losing your mental health.

Most Important Tips to maintain a healthy work-life-school balance:

Set apart time for yourself and friends meaning to set time to do things you enjoy, hangout with others, take breaks (doesn't mean procrastinate).

Be mindful of your own health meaning take care of yourself. Eat well, get at least seven hours of sleep, and organize your school work and work schedule.

Don't rely fully on yourself and ask others for help. It is much easier to study and do assignments with friends or teachers. Along with that, it is important to work with your co-workers (if you have) to get stuff done quicker and better.

Understand that you cannot do everything so don't force yourself into an unhealthy lifestyle to try and pack all your assignments and work into a small amount of time. Also don't take more responsibilities if or when you already have a lot on your plate.

-Raeden Marks How To Make a Great Impression in a Job Interview: 5 tips

1. Research the company and interviewers

You could compare an interview to a game of chess. Not exactly, but both are complex which you need to answer with significance. Using the company’s website, social media posts, and other forms of news you can understand what the company wants, needs, and what's the standard.

2. Reread the job description

You may want to print the job description and underline specific skills the employer is looking for. Consider examples from your past and current work that align with these requirements.

3. Practice answering questions with someone

Practicing your answers out loud is an incredibly effective way to prepare. Say them to yourself or ask a friend to help run through common questions and your answers. You’ll gain confidence as you get used to saying the words. It helps if your partner gives you constructive criticism or feedback to help you get better.

4. Bring resume copies, a notebook, and a pen

You should take multiple copies of printed resumes in case for multiple interviewers. In these resumes, you should highlight specific accomplishments on your copy that you can easily refer to and discuss. Bring a pen and a small notebook for note-taking, you shouldn't use electronics or your phone to take notes.

5. Keep your answers concise and focused

Remember: Your time with each interviewer is limited so be mindful of rambling answers. Practicing your answers beforehand can help keep you focused.

The Luckiest Workers in America? Teenagers. (Jacie Kaniho)

Teens are outperforming other demographic groups in the labor market, with 256,000 teens in April gaining employment, a significant shift after the pandemic. However, some educators warn that jobs could distract from school and that the recent wave of hiring has been led by white teens, raising concerns that minority groups might miss out on the hot summer labor market. The hiring crunch can be felt across the country, with restaurants struggling to fill jobs due to fewer workers coming from abroad and rising housing prices. In Henderson, Ky., the city government raised the starting pay to $10 an hour and dropped the minimum age for applicants from 16 to 15. This has led to more teenagers applying and the city is now interviewing candidates for open positions.

Job Search Tips For High School Students - Micah Kanana

To find a job suited for you, you should consider the following.

Consider Volunteering

Even though you won't get a paycheck, volunteering is a great way to add valuable work experience to your resume, which will help you find a paid position in the future. Check with your high school guidance office and with local non-profit organizations for volunteer opportunities.

Write a Resume

Even though it may not be required by employers, a resume can help you stand out from the competition. Even though you may not have much information to include, a resume shows that you're serious about your job search.

Make sure to include extracurricular activities and volunteer work on your resume.

Start Your Job Hunt Close to Home

One good way to get experience when you are a high school student is to start by working for friends and neighbors. Babysitting, mowing lawns, landscaping, yard work, shoveling snow, and pet sitting can all be included on your resume. In addition, the people you work for will be able to give you a reference when you apply for other jobs.

Advertise Your Job Search

The most important thing you can do is advertise the fact that you’re looking for a job. You never know who might be looking for their next employee.

Tell everyone you know that you are looking for a job. Many jobs aren't advertised, and you may be able to get a good job lead from a friend or family member.

TIP: The more people you tell, the better your chances are of finding a job.

Check With the Guidance Office

Your high school guidance office staff should be able to help you with job listings and jobsearch advice. There may be a bulletin board with job postings, a notebook with listings, and/or an online job board. They might also have internship opportunities, which may (or may not) be paid, but will give you valuable experience.

Job Search Online and In-Person

Check websites that list local job openings. You can use job search engines like Indeed.com to search by keyword part-time and your location to find job listings in your city or town. Check your local Chamber of Commerce website (Google your city/town name and Chamber of Commerce to find it) to see if they list jobs. There are lots of sources of employment opportunities, both for part-time during the school year and for great summer jobs.

Also, try stopping in at local businesses, and check to see if they are hiring. In some cases, the business may put a sign in the window. If there isn’t one, check with the manager anyway. Your motivation and self-assurance will impress the manager and could land you an interview.

Dress Appropriately

When you are applying in person for jobs and interviewing, dress appropriately. Use the "Grandma Rule" (if your grandmother would like your interview outfit, then you are dressed properly).

Here's more info on what teens shouldn't wear to job interviewers.

Make Sure Your Social Media Is Presentable

Potential employers may search your name online and on social media sites. Make sure they won't find anything that would make them reconsider hiring you.

Be Flexible

Be as flexible as possible when it comes to your availability. The more flexible you are, the more likely you are to get a job offer. Also, know when you're available for work. Bring a list of the hours you can work with you when you apply in person or go to an interview.

Tips for Teens: How to Find Your First Real Job-Beau Mayo

Create Your First Resume

Although many of the jobs you’re pursuing won’t require a resume, going the extra mile to create one can help you make a positive first impression on prospective employers. Even without any work experience, you can still create a document that draws attention to your education achievements and involvement within your community. While you may struggle to find relevant content, the goal is to get your resume as close as possible to the one-page mark. Remember that you can feature coursework, academic projects, and extracurricular activities to give the hiring manager a better understanding of your unique background. For additional resources, you can visit our page on crafting resumes for teenagers.

Gather Necessary Documentation

Once you have your resume prepared, you’ll want to secure all the necessary documentation you’ll need for your job application. You’ll need to gather your social security number and bring some form of identification with you. You can obtain either a passport or photo ID if you don’t have a driver’s license. Depending on the age restrictions within your state, you may also need to provide a document signed by your parent or guardian allowing you to pursue employment.

Dress Professionally When Applying for Your First Job

Hiring managers will already have many concerns about hiring a teenager, especially regarding professionalism, so you’ll want to dress appropriately when applying for your first job. Showing up to apply for a job in jeans and a t-shirt may send the message that you don’t care enough to put the effort in should they choose to hire you. If you dress professionally during the application process and make a positive first impression, employers may be more willing to take a chance on bringing you in for an interview.

Prepare Yourself for the Interview

With anything in life, practice makes perfect, and preparing for the interview is no different. Refining your pitch can make all the difference in whether or not you land your first job at the onset of your career. Practice your responses to sample interview questions using tangible examples from your academic experience or extracurricular activities. For example, if you’re asked about your team leadership qualities, you may be able to point out an academic project that you took the lead on or your experiences as an athlete on a high school sports team. Having some ideas prepared beforehand will make you feel more confident when it comes time for the interview.

Apply Online and In-Person

You’ll want to apply to as many opportunities as possible to increase your chances of securing employment. At this stage in your career, applying in person may be more beneficial, as it allows you to introduce yourself to the manager beforehand. That said, countless entry-level positions are listed online every day, so you will want to use a combination of both to reach out to a variety of different companies.

Don’t Get Discouraged by Rejection

Unfortunately, rejection is a part of the job search and something you’ll need to move past while seeking to land your first opportunity. The important thing is to avoid taking a rejection personally or allowing it to discourage you from applying for other positions. Candidates are rejected every day for a multitude of reasons, and it’s important to remember that with diligence and perseverance, you’ll ultimately find the right fit for your skill sets. Don’t be afraid to ask for feedback after a rejection, as the hiring manager may be willing to provide insights that can help you improve as you move forward.

Leverage Your Connections

Although you likely won’t have industry connections to leverage at this stage of your career, putting the word out amongst your friends and family may help you to uncover available opportunities during the job hunt. Asking around regarding job openings in your area is a viable strategy, as someone you know may have a connection at a company that’s looking for new team members. Putting yourself out there is another job search component, so don’t be afraid to ask for help along the way.

Send a Thank You Note Following an Interview

Even at the entry level, you’ll be surprised at the amount of competition you’ll face while applying for jobs. Hiring managers often review large volumes of resumes and applications each day and sending a thank you note following an interview is a small touch that may help you to stand out from the applicant pool. Employers value candidates who are polite, respectful, and courteous and going the extra mile to send a thank you note, or email will speak positively to who you are as both a candidate and as a person.

Prioritize Time Management

If you’re a high school student looking for your first job, you’ll want to be careful with time management and your priorities. It’s important to take your work responsibilities seriously, but you don’t want your first job to supersede your academic success or long-term goals. Maintaining open lines of communication with employers regarding your availability and school commitments is important to ensure that you don’t overwhelm yourself during this transformative phase of your life.

Stay Positive and Don’t Give Up

Landing your first job is a huge accomplishment and milestone for teenagers, but you’ll need to stay persistent throughout the job search. This is a valuable learning experience, and you may make some mistakes along the way. Maintaining a positive attitude is important when dealing with a lack of interviews or handling rejection. Remember that job opportunities come and go many times over the course of a person’s career. As long as you remain patient and diligent during your search, you’ll be sure to land the position that is right for you.

It’s something you’ll definitely want to consider! Here are four reasons you should do a summer internship as a high school student.

Reason #1: A Summer Internship Looks Good On College Applications

Extra experience and that extra step can make quite a different on your college application. Schools like to see you taking initiative, especially in something that has to do with your intended major. It shows you’re dedicated, well before you set foot on their campus. This position could set you apart from the crowd and help you earn an acceptance letter.

Reason #2: It Gives You Job Experience

A summer internship will also look great for future job applications. This is definitely the case if you decide to go forward with this particular field. You’ll already have work history under your belt even if you decided not to work during college. This will help tremendously with your resume, future job interviews, and self confidence when it comes to work.

Reason #3: You Get the Skills You Need In Your Field

There’s no better way to experience your field than with a hands on approach. A summer internship will give you a real introduction to your intended career path and let you know more about your major and field in general.

Reason #4: An Internship Will Help You Network

Networking is another benefit that comes out of taking part in an internship, and it’s great to start early. The right position will help you create connections that can help you through college, but may also result in some great positions or careers after you graduate. Make sure to keep up those connections too — whether it be working at the company during the summer or adding them on LinkedIn.
