One of the tools such as Facebook which is social media tool that allows people to network through an online site which makes it accessible to connect and share information with family, friends, and other people around the world. An element of Facebook are posts that the user is able to use to pin pictures, videos, stories, and other information on Facebook that people can see. The founder of #MeToo movement, Tarana Burke created a page on Facebook that is currently available to the public. This page allows women who have been sexually harassed and assaulted connect to other women around the world who have also experienced the same treatment, but have been too afraid and scared to voice their story. In addition, this page allows people to follow her page and post empowering messages and share stories with the public, so that all these women can be heard. This page currently has 10,672 people following it. One of the features on Facebook allows people to stay updated on current information posted on the site, by sending notifications to followers on their news feed. Similarly, Twitter is an online social media tool that permits people to communicate information in short messages called tweets, which is sent to anyone that is following you on Twitter. People use Twitter worldwide to tweet their stories and share messages, and in the same way the #MeToo movement has shared information using this social media tool. An actress by the name of Alyssa Milano, who according to Joanne Kavanagh, an author of The Sun stated via “Posting on Twitter. Alyssa passed along a suggestion from a friend that women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted post "Me Too" to give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem” (Kavanagh, 2018). Milano’s tweet has started a trend which has spread worldwide to attract light to the problem and support many women through tweets and hashtags. For example, a woman shared a tweet about her daughter’s experience of getting sexually harassed by a co-worker, along with a man that was sexually assaulted at the age of 15 by his brother’s friend; these stories portray an example of the kind of stories that are tweeted on Milano’s Twitter account, which has connected a lot people and celebrities. Not only women are expressing their stories and supporting this movement, but the above tweet by a man who has been sexually assaulted by his brother’s friend shows that men are also expressing and supporting the awareness as well. YouTube differs from Twitter and Facebook since it is a social media tool that is devised to share videos with the many users around the world. It allows the user to create an account and upload videos for anyone to watch. YouTube has replaced television, because people can practically watch the same shows on YouTube, but for free, and with wider selection to watch from. Burke uses YouTube to post a video of the #MeToo movement to explain the purpose of the movement, and how it supports women that have been sexually assaulted or harassed. For example, Ellen DeGeneres, who is one of the supporters of the movement has helped to bring awareness by posting a video on YouTube. People can use different social elements to raise the same awareness and inform the public of important things happening around the world.
