The Diagnosis of an Eating Disorder incorporates both physical and mental health exams in order to properly diagnose the patient. Generally, doctors do physical exams to find out if the person's symptoms align with the definition of an Eating Disorder. Likewise, psychiatrists and other mental health providers will perform psychological exams to find if the symptoms align with the different Eating Disorders.

There are various treatments for Eating Disorders. The first treatment consists of restoring a healthy diet and balance in the patient, getting them to a healthy body weight and to limit the person from harmful activities like purging or excessive dieting. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Maudsley therapy are other alternatives to the first approach. Finally, some people with Eating Disorders also have underlying mental health conditions like depression. This could lead to antidepressants and other medicines being treatment for people with these conditions.
