Dear all,
My name is Flora. I am your lecturer for this unit. I am from ACU North Sydney campus which is not far away from the beautiful Sydney Harbour Bridge. I take a bus and then a train to come to work everyday. It takes about 5-7 minutes walking from the train station to our campus. The public transport system is convenient here.

Before I started my university teaching career at ACU in 2005, I had worked as a registered nurse for some years in China, Singapore and Australia. My three key qualifications including a Graduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning (Charles Darwin University), a Master of Clinical Education (ACU) and a Doctor of Philosophy (the Australian National University) have enabled me to become competent in teaching both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses at universities.

In this semester, I am teaching not only HLSC618 but also a 2nd year Bachelor of Nursing subject. I enjoy my teaching job and often have opportunities to learn many new things and ideas from my students who are from diverse backgrounds.

I hope you will find this unit useful. I look forward to working with you soon.
Kind regards,
Flora
(The photo below was taken at Kakadu National Park in July 2018).

Hi All,My name is Kim, this subject makes up part of the grad cert in clinical education I started at the beginning of the year. I have been a nuclear medicine technologist for over 15 years and have recently taken on a tutor role in the department. This new role places me in charge of facilitating student placements in our department and overseeing their assessments. I am hoping that this subject, along with the others in the grad cert will help arm me with the skills required to fulfill my new role. I have not studied for awhile and am finding it to be a very rewarding experience, but also slightly challenging at time with a family and full time work!Kim

In my spare time I keep my clinical skills up to date by working as a RN on a very busy private surgical ward. In my spare spare time I taxi my pre teen and teen to their numerous sporting and social avents.
I love helping students develop their clinical skills connecting knowledge to practice. I am especially interested in the field of simulation learning. I feel this really allows students the opportunity to safely challenge ones learning.
I myself am not very academic (long history of dyslexia) so I find online learning rather challenging, but also it is a challenge I’ve excepted.
I look forward to hearing everyone’s input.
Amanda

I currently work as a full time Nurse Educator at a RTO. I teach the Diploma of Nursing Course face to face and in clinical lab simulation to undergraduate Enrolled Nurses. My background working in Clinical education - I worked for 6 years as a Clinical Facilitator with 2 universities facilitating undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing students. My clinical specialist role involved clinical education at the bedside and in workshops. I trained, assessed and evaluated AINs, RNs and clinical leaders in the aged care sector in continence promotion and management.Three things I would like to get out of this course are: -1.	Increase my understanding of the theories and models that underpin clinical education to relation to instructional design2.	To be able to evaluate assessments for effectiveness and be able to improve curriculum for better student outcomes.I look forward to an interesting semester of learning and interaction.Kimberley

Hi Everyone,

I am a nurse working in Community Child Health. I work with newborns and young children in the complex care environment. Currently I am doing an acting CNC role and since we do not have an educator, I am it. There is a lot to do with ongoing professional development of staff, and education of staff new to Child Health as well as Child Health students. So far I have been basing my teaching on my own experiences! Perhaps not great since I am a baby boomer, so I am keen to learn new skills and implement them straight away.

My name is San and I am fairly new to this. This is my very first online study so I'm bit overwhelmed. I just started studying post grad diploma in clinical education this semester. Currently, I'm working as a Registered Nurse in a general medical ward. I have no experience in being a clinical facilitator/educator apart from being buddy nurse for nursing students. The reason I am studying this course is to take my career further as an educator within the hospital and to become clinical facilitator for nursing students.
Look forward to working with you all.
Regards,
San

My name is Sonia Christison. I am enrolled in Masters of Clinical Education - I completed a Grad Cert in healthcare simulation last year. This was very rewarding study as I have been able to apply much of what I learnt to my teaching as the Perioperative Nurse Educator for 7 operating theatres. I live in Ipswich QLD and have 2 sons, lots of animals and a thriving garden. I also have a passion for cooking, quilting and making candles.
I have worked in anaesthetics, recovery and scrub scout nursing for the past 20 years and have been in the educator role for 4 years - time goes by very quickly. I have been involved in developing the curriculum for the Queensland statewide transition to practice perioperative modules. I haven't had anything to do with instructional design though and am hoping to expand both my knowledge and skills in this area. Feeling a little overwhelmed with juggling online study, home life and my work role as our hospital is transitioning to digital record keeping - for which a big workload falls to the educators. I look forward to learning from all of you over the coming months.
Sonia
