1.

Mr. Yeh earned a silver yuan pao after one year of work.

2.

A-Ken Sao needed money to pay the rent; Otherwise, the building owner threatened to sell his daughter, Yeng-hua.

3.

Liu Sao decided to bring New Year's food to Mr. to bring Yeh's home, with sympathy for his plight.

4.

The Chinese celebrate the New Year with a special New Year's Eve dinner that includes dishes such as a whole chicken, a whole fish and a whole pork leg. They prepare enough food for the fifteen days of festivities, allowing them to relax and visit family and friends without worrying about cooking. In Colombia, New Years is celebrated with parties, music, fireworks and special dinners that may include dishes such as lechona, tamales and natilla

5.

The decision to take the same actions as Mr. Yeh to take will depend on personal values and the specific situation of each individual. Like Mr. Yeh, one can decide to help someone in need, recognizing the positive impact that help can have on the lives of others. However, it will also be important to consider your own needs and those of the family. Mr. Yeh's empathy and generosity is inspiring, but it is a decision each person must make based on their own context and values.

1. Sr. Yeh earned a yuan-pao of money after a hard year of work

2. He must pay the rent by tomorrow. If he don't, the owner of the building is going to sell his daughter

3. after hearing Liu Sao felt sorry for Mr. Yeh and decided bring them some of the delicious dishes that she had cook.

4. The difference between New Year in China and in Colombia is that the Chinese celebrate it all over the world. The celebration is divided into two parts: the family reunion and the celebration abroad. Chinese New Year is the only time of the year when all family members can gather and celebrate the new year together. There is also the custom of staying at home to receive good fortune or visit the in-laws. In addition, money is given in a red envelope, called “hong bao” to children and adults without a partner, and dragon dances are performed. While in Colombia it is represented by “The Nativity Scene” one of the hallmarks of Colombian Christmas traditions in Colombian homes, or at least in most of them. The nativity scene recreates, in a model, the place where the birth of the Child God took place, a feast of typical dishes accompanied by buñuelos and natilla, two foods that always accompany Christmas celebrations and finally every December 31 in some parts of the country a doll is burned to represent the old year.

5. I would not make the same decision as Mr. Yeh. While it is commendable to help others, sacrificing all of one's own income may not be sustainable in the long run. I would consider finding a balance between helping others and ensuring my own financial stability. That is why I admire Mr. Yeh

What did Mr. Yeh earn after a year of work?

Mr. Yeh received a silver yuan-pao as his salary for a year of teaching in a private school.

Why did A-Ken Sao need money?

A-Ken Sao was unable to make the rent due to the owner saying it would sell her seventeen-year-old daughter, Ying-hua, if they did not pay back by the following day. It had been a year since she had last heard from her husband, A-Ken, leaving her only with the option that he had been killed or had upped and ran off.

What did Liu Sao decide after hearing her son's story?

By following Hsiao-pao when he narrated his story to her about Mr. Yeh, Liu Sao decided that she would visit Mr. Yeh and his wife tomorrow morning so as to wish them happy New Year and take some of the food she had made.

What do Chinese do to celebrate
New Year?
Compare with Colombia

In the story, Chinese celebrate New Year with a big dinner on December 31st which includes roast chicken, duck, fish soup, pork curry among other dishes. The celebration lasts for a fortnight enabling people to go and see their relatives and friends. In Colombia during New year also they have feast but sometimes they eat twelve grapes at midnight for good luck, make effigies that are burnt (“Año Viejo”)and put on yellow underwear for good fortune. Both of these cultures focus on family get together and special meals yet each of them has its own customs and cuisines linked to the holiday celebrations.

Would you make the same decision as Mr. Yeh? Why?

This query is subjective and relies on personal values and circumstances. Some could prefer to donate the money to someone in urgent need, as Mr. Yeh did, because they believe that love and immediate help are important. Yet, some people might prioritize their families’ needs at a time like New Year’s when such demands are very crucial. The gravity of both situations, personal moral values, and possible effects on your own family would be among factors involved.
