Considered the “first great example of french classical architecture” and was the peak of the long tradition of chateau style buildings.

Has served many different purposes, two of which being the predecessor of  Le Louvre  and a prison. The garden currently serves as a tourist attraction and a park.

Heritage day in September is the only that the palace at the garden is open to the public.

L’escalier d’honneur staircase was demolished and replaced with a senate chamber and a library, so was Marie de Medicis’ Chapel.

The palace of the garden was extensively remodeled during the 19th century.
