The Domino Effect is basically how dominoes fall, one after another, leading to more. The same thing happened for the start of World War 1, many dominoes fells in the lead up of the total outbreak of WWI.
1st: Franz Ferdinand is assassinated by Gavrilo Princip on June 28th, 1914, after he disagrees with the way Austria-Hungary is ruling things
2nd: Austria-Hungary demands an apology, but Serbia refuses
3rd: Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia
4th: Russia declares war on Austria-Hungary, due to the alliance they have with Serbia
5th: Germany declares war  on Russia, due to being in different alliances
6th:  Germany declares war on France
7th: Great Britain goes to war with Germany and goes through neutral Belgium to get to France

In Document 1 of our DBQ, it states, "When the Austrian Grand Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated at Sarajevo in Serbia. This area, known as the Powder Keg region, now had a spark that would light the powder keg exploding all of Europe into turmoil." The Alliance System is what caused several of the wars to start, because they had agreed with their allies, that if one went to war, they all did. Princip was apart of a society called the Black Hand.  "The Black Hand was a secret military organization that sought to reunite all the territories annexed by Austria-Hungary with large Serbian populations''. as informed by an article from Gale World History and Context.
