ICT Activity: Explained

There are two activities that utilise the use of ICT's.

The first activity introduces students to using Padlet. Students respond to a question at the top of the Padlet page (there will be approximately five pages to go through as a class). This is an individual activity, where students will develop their listening skills when responding to music examples and various other questions. Their answers should communicate ideas about music in social, cultural and historical contexts. The teacher should encourage questions and help students get familiar with the new technology.

The second activity requires students to work collaboratively in small groups. They will answer more Padlet questions by researching on the recommended websites (found in resources list). These responses require more in-depth knowledge, and to be at least a length of two to three sentences. Students who complete the task early may then begin experimenting with making their own Padlet and begin working independently on their assessment task.

Assessment Formative Task:
This is a mini musicology assessment task, where students will create individual Blog Posts using Padlet. The Blog Posts are based on the lives of their chosen art music composers from either the Baroque, Classical or Romantic periods.

Students must include:
- Music characteristics of the time period
- Characteristics of composers works and common elements of their compositions
- Important aspects of their lives (a timeline may be used)
- Interesting facts about composer/time period
- Historical events of the time period
- Links to at least 2 music examples (YouTube/other) as well as at least three referenced images.

The purpose of this assessment is to recognise achievements of their chosen composers, and their contributions to their musical periods. It helps them understand music in social, cultural and historical contexts. It is an assessment for learning, as the teacher tracks their progress and helps throughout.
