I am quite proud of how my project ended up turning out. I didn't really have a color scheme in mind; I kind of just wanted to use as many colors as I could to resemble all the beautiful colors under the sea. All of my inspirations came from the pre-project assignment of acquiring all the photos of things under the sea. A lot of my photos were of starfish and barnacles. I loved the shape and colors of the starfish and I loved the texture and shape of the barnacle so I really wanted to incorporate those into my project. I used 2 different texture glazes: white cobblestone and beach peddles. Although I have never made a clay coil before, I managed to make a pot made completely out of clay coils. My spirit animal was a pig. The traits we share include responsibility and strength in tough times. I didn't want my pig to have crazy colors because a pig is just pink. I used 1 element glaze all over my whole project, inside and out. Some of my coils allowed negative space throughout my project. I tried to manipulate the coils in different ways to create different coils. I really enjoyed making this project. I came across a problem when I had just finished building my project with clay. I was almost ready to put it out on the green-ware shelf but I just needed to do some finishing touches after the weekend so I wrapped it up and kept it in my locker. When I came back to class, I pulled my project out and it completely collapsed. I was able to salvage the top part but the bottom was destroyed. I decided I was going to make 2 projects; one being the top part that I saved (I added a base and cleaned it up) and the other project being a brand new, but more simple vase. I had to start over and make a new and elegant vase with holes cut out for flower stems to go into. I used a lavender and lemon yellow glaze and both to make sure they stayed cohesive. I love the design that I came up with for this one. I changed my mind a lot about the design. My original project plan is different from the final product. I wanted to use really earthy toned glazes for this project. I had some struggles with this one. The "sun" on the top was heavy so it made the lid concave a little, which I wasn't expecting. This edges of the lid were constantly cracking because of the weight so I had to keep fixing it with slip and fresh clay. I am very satisfied with the final product and I'm really glad I decided to change my design. I was so excited to do this project because I knew right away what I wanted to do. I made a beachy wind chime. I made starfish, sea shells, and sand dollars out of clay.
