Dynamic verbs So-called dynamic verbs or 'dynamic verbs / action verbs' describe actions or activities. Unlike so-called state verbs that you generally can't use in continuous or progressive forms, so-called dynamic verbs can be used with:
1 Simple times: I play football. I play soccer (present simple). I will play soccer next Saturday. I will play soccer next Saturday (future simple).
2 Compound times: I have not read your new novel. I have not read your new novel (present perfect). He had drunk mineral water. She had drunk mineral water (past perfect). I will have cooked it. I will have cooked it (future perfect).
3 Progressive or continuous times: I'm eating pizza. I am eating pizza (present continuous, with the value that something is taking place at that moment). John is leaving tomorrow. John leaves tomorrow (present continuous with future value). The snow was melting. The snow was melting (past continuous). Now it will run. It will be running now (future continuous).

Stative verbs describe a state rather than an action. They aren't usually used in the present continuous form.

Stative verbs often relate to:

thoughts and opinions: agree, believe, doubt, guess, imagine, know, mean, recognise, remember, suspect, think, understand
feelings and emotions: dislike, hate, like, love, prefer, want, wish
senses and perceptions: appear, be, feel, hear, look, see, seem, smell, taste
possession and measurement: belong, have, measure, own, possess, weigh.

Some English verbs, which we call state, non-continuous or stative verbs, aren't used in continuous tenses (like the present continuous or the future continuous). These verbs often describe states that last for some time. Here is a list of some common ones

be is usually a stative verb, but when it is used in the continuous it means 'behaving' or 'acting'you are stupid = it's part of your personalityyou are being stupid = only now, not usually

think (stative) = have an opinion
