March 1946 Winston Churchill’s “Iron Curtain” speech

Winston Churchill was a statesman and writer. His speech was about the need for Britain and the U.S. to keep the peace against Soviet communism. At the time WWII had just ended and American and British leaders were allies with the Soviet Union.

1948 Marshall Plan

The Marshall Plan was the first step in America's aiding Europe and Asia. The U.S. gave these nations 17 billion dollars. This support helped Europe and Asia rebuild their economy after WWII.

The Stonewall Riot was caused by police invading the Stonewall Inn, a popular club for queer, gay and transgender people. Many people resisted arrest, and the uprising lasted six nights. The riots were a turning point in the LGBTQ movement, and homosexuality was removed from the American Psychiatric Association’s diagnostic manual of mental disorders.

Indian tribes had decided to occupy Alcatraz. 89 Native Americans and many college students had set out to occupy this land. Ultimately, the protesters were swarmed by police and the remaining 15 were removed.

1972-1974 Watergate

A watergate is a town opening onto a large body of water. The Watergate scandal was a political affair involving President Nixon. There was a burglary of the Democratic National Committee at the Watergate site. This crime was connected to Nixon which resulted in his resignation.

Roe v. Wade 1973

President Richard Nixon was the first president to resign from his role; otherwise, he’d be impeached by the people. The reason for resignation was due to the Watergate scandal, an attempted burglary done by former CIA agents, all orchestrated and heavily covered up by the president himself.
