After several hours of analysis and controversy in Parliament and Government, First Sea Lord Henry Leach convinced Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to mobilize the fleet to retake control of the Falklands. The British admiral later said that he believed that the prestige of his country was "at stake". On April 3 Thatcher ordered the mobilization of Task Force 31 to recover the Falklands. On April 5 the British Government began Operation Corporate.
