This statement is agreed by the above stated individuals due to the following: Individuals and groups playing a part in achieving environmental sustainability suggest that people have the mind and will to help with the sustainability of the environment, which means that people are responsible for their own environment. People of the world would definitely outnumber the number of government personnel worldwide, therefore would be able to do more than what the government can. These private sectors can also provide resources & expertise for each other to drive environmental stewardship efforts to influence more people to do so. Seen from the latest event involving heavily of the government (COVID 19 period), we can see that the government has not very successfully influence the people of Singapore to wear masks when outdoors. This suggests that the government of Singapore is unable to influence their citizens, even if it were for the citizens' own good. Therefore, we believe that it should now be a chance for the citizens to influence themselves for their own good to achieve what is best for all.

It will be harder to achieve environmental sustainability as the individuals and groups consist of more people who can contribute more effort to the environment. For example, the government can invest money to organize beach clean-ups, but if individuals are not willing to volunteer to participate in the activity, the government's efforts will be futile in trying to achieve environmental sustainability.

Environmental stewardship efforts have to be carried out anyway, no matter whether its done by the government, individuals or communities. there are also certain restrictions for what the government can do but individuals and groups can do more initiatives. individuals and groups have a wider variety of perspectives compared to one single government. an example can be about tackling the problem of food waste. government can only do so much to try their best to educate and spread awareness, as well as establish penalties for those who waste food. however, individuals can do their own part to reduce their own food waste. groups and communities can do up their own initiatives to give out rewards for those who reduce their food waste. for example, restaurants can make use of discounts and free items to encourage diners to finish all of their food. therefore we agree that individuals and groups can reach out more to achieve environmental sustainability compared to the govt.

Communities and groups form partnership with public and private sectors as these sectors provide resources and expertise to thrive environmental stewardship efforts. For example, individuals and groups partner with the National Environment Agency (NEA) to ensure good recycling habits in the neighbourhood. However, without every individual's effort, this initiative would not be possible.

I would disagree with this because has way more power compared to individual groups like the power to make laws to make it illegal for certain nature areas to be destroyed and to provide environmental protection for areas compared to groups owned my individuals which need to be backed up by sponsors. The government can also force companies to support waste minimization and recycling while groups can only do their best to reduce the wastage by ENCOURAGING people, and which some may not listen but the government is more intimidating. The government can also reduce resources and make more energy and water efficient buildings to reduce energy usage which will reduce the amount of water and energy resources required to meet the needs of the buildings and neighbourhood. Hence, I disagree that environmental stewardship efforts by individuals play a bigger role in achieving environmental sustainability than the government since the government clearly holds more power in their hands than the environmental groups.

this is because individuals have limited funds and even though individuals who care can put in a lot of effort, it might not be enough to achieve environmental sustainability without the government's help and money. for example, when Singapore had to clean the Singapore river back in the days, "The clean-up cost the government $300 million at the time" the government is also able to influence the citizens and advocate for environmental sustainability by giving talks through the MPs. Singapore has implemented innovative policies to enhance environmental sustainability. The government has invested in green infrastructure, such as vertical gardens and rooftop greenery, to mitigate the urban heat island effect and promote biodiversity. thus, we disagree as the government efforts to help with environmental sustainability is more than the people of singapoore can contribute

The government's efforts may not be effective as people are not motivated to play a part in practicing environmental sustainability whereas with an individual or group's efforts, when someone sees their peers recycling eg , they will be influenced and motivated to follow suit. For example, the government may organize a movement to recycle but there may be little volunteers , but after someone sees their peers attending the movement , they wil be influenced to do the same and thus contribute to environmental sustainability .

I agree that environmental stewardship efforts by individuals and groups
play a bigger role in achieving environmental sustainability as compared to the government’s efforts. Volunteerism refers to the practice of doing work for good causes, without being paid. This means that they are doing it through their own will, and are not forced. On the other hand, the government utilises laws in order to make people be environmentally friendly. While this works, they are getting the citizens to agree to the law through coercion. While government efforts remain important in setting policies and regulations, grassroots volunteerism complements and enhances these efforts by mobilizing passionate individuals to address environmental challenges at the local level.

In Singapore, both environmental stewardship efforts by individuals and groups and government efforts play integral roles in achieving environmental sustainability. Through pressure done by these individuals on organizations, it would force them to take a different and improved approach in terms of environmental sustainability due to environmental sustainability. These are some of the examples done in Singapore

Community-Led Coastal Cleanups: Environmental stewardship shines brightly in Singapore's coastal regions through community-led cleanup efforts. Organizations like the "International Coastal Cleanup Singapore" rally volunteers to tackle marine debris and plastic pollution along the shores. This grassroots initiative showcases the power of local stewardship, where individuals unite to protect marine ecosystems and promote responsible coastal practices.

Urban Farming Initiatives: Within Singapore's urban sprawl, environmental stewardship blossoms through community-driven urban farming projects. Initiatives such as "Edible Garden City" and "Community in Bloom" exemplify stewardship in action, as residents cultivate sustainable agriculture amidst concrete jungles. These endeavors not only foster local food resilience but also cultivate a deeper connection to nature, demonstrating how grassroots efforts can cultivate environmental stewardship within urban landscapes.

Citizen Science Projects: Environmental stewardship takes flight in Singapore through citizen science initiatives aimed at conserving biodiversity. Projects like the "Singapore Hornbill Project" engage volunteers in monitoring wildlife populations, amplifying stewardship efforts beyond traditional conservation circles. By empowering citizens to contribute to scientific research and conservation efforts, these projects foster a sense of stewardship towards Singapore's rich natural heritage.

Participants may gain greater community ownership and stewardship of the parks in their neighbourhood. This helps residents become more aware of what they can and should do to responsibly use and protect the natural environment.

I agree with this statement, because I feel that if each and every individual makes the effort to play a role in achieving economic sustainability it will be more effective. Compared to the government, individuals might not acknowledge the government's efforts or even take note of it, so if they all individually take the effort to do so, it will be more effective then the government, provided all individuals take the effort to do so. Government's efforts may be overlooked by some individuals most of the time, therefore, if individuals take the effort themselves, it would be more effective.

I agree as even though the government and individuals have put in the effort to try and keep envionmental sustainability, there are some individuals and groups that are still ignorant and inconsiderate about their surroundings and the future of Singapore. Some things that they do are littering on the floor and in the ocean which causes water pollution. This may attract pests and affect the standard of living for the future generations. That is why I think the impact of individuals are more impactful compared to the government.

We agree that environmental agencies play a bigger part than the government because they can rally people together and get volunteers to help out to keep doing environmentally sustainable practices compared to the government which would take longer time to address the issues. This will also raise awareness of the public about environmental stewardship and hence, environmental agencies play a bigger part.
