By Alicia Shankland
EVP & Critique
I worked in the advertising business for a long time. 72andSunny is considered one of the best mid-size advertising agencies to work for.

Their career page is exceptionally simple. Yet, the EVP comes through clearly. They provide many learning opportunities, they are a very casual workforce (dogs, picnics, etc.), the benefits package is generous (100% paid health care and "kick ass" retirement benefits), they value families and time off, and are "makers" and creatives.

What surprises me is that there are no videos about the employee experience on the career page. This is an agency that wins awards for amazing creativity and has demo reels that knock your socks off.

Perhaps they are implying they are too cool for that? That anyone who applies must already know that they produce eye-popping work?

Would it attract the targeted talent?
People who have been in the industry know 72andSunny by reputation and this simple, one screen summary of benefits is likely enough.

My opinion is that more would be helpful to attract interns, recent grads, and people from outside of the industry. These are such bare bones, that it seems a case of the cobbler's children having no shoes.

By Alicia Shankland
EVP & Critique
So, this is a completely different EVP than 72andSunny. No dogs, no picnics, no makers, no "kick ass" anything.

The website is poorly designed by any measure. It's 99% information and just a bit of candidate marketing.

However, the tiny video in the corner of the benefits page makes the EVP clear: working at the Fed is about serving the American people.

Then, if you read the benefits, there are some "kick ass" retirement benefits: a pension plan AND a thrift plan. Both well funded better than any corporation. They also offer and pay for 100% of short and long term disability and 100% paid maternity/paternity leave.

So, while it is not stated, it seems as if part of the EVP is providing long-term financial security for employees. Which, of course, is congruent with the Federal Reserve's mission.

Will it reach the target talent?
Oddly, I think the answer is yes.. My hunch is that people who want to work at the Fed are largely not expecting much more than the basic, 1990's functionality of this site. It reflects the government's very functional, practical employment practices.

The website pulls you in right away. But as you scroll through you have to find the benefits page which is not spelled out like what a person would think.

The EVP of this page is to make you feel like a family. They want you to be inclusive and part of the team as stated by them. It is geared towards those who are wanting to make a difference in the world and in their professional life as well.

It seems that they are providing you with all the right tools to succeed. Which is great for a potential employee. They also offer a total rewards package which includes health benefits, vacation time, and much more.

I believe this will attract what the organization needs. The company will have something for everyone. Casting a broad range will attract more than being more specific. The website reflects where we are in life and the times we are living in.

This is very compelling and made me feel wanted. I wanted to explore more and see what they had to offer. It reflects what the company wants from their future employees (team members).

Upon first glance I think Crocs has a very enticing, colorful, and magnetic EVP page. They have their impact statement which is well within their brand, offer visuals with positive attributes, clearly state opportunity advancements, employee benefits, and they have an option to search for job openings near you and countries around the world. Also, they provide a "fun fact" section about their company and employees. Which I don't tend to see a lot.

One thing I would have liked to see on their EVP page is a video. I think even though they did a great job at setting the atmosphere for the type of employee they want, but, they could have really knocked people's socks off (get it because it's a shoe company) with a recruitment video. The company's slogan is "Come as You Are" and I think they could've really demonstrated it and highlighted that aspect of their company with a video. To be technical too, the employee benefits part of the page isn't hyperlinked so to find more information on it you would have to go to the top of the page and find the drop down section labeled "employee benefits" to get further information.

Will it attract the targeted talent?
I think that with the way they designed and formatted their EVP page it showcases what type of talent they are looking for: diverse, fun-spirited, creative talent. Also, those who have been loyal customers will have more of an incentive to work for the company since they stand by their products and message. I know that I will definitely be exploring this page further.

I absolutely love the website provided by Airbnb, it has a perfect balance to keep the user from feeling overwhelmed. What I mean by this is that there aren't too many words or pictures to possibly bore the users.

It seems like Airbnb's EVP is mostly coming from the aspect of freedom and the ability to travel often. In today's world, this is becoming more popular and people enjoy flexibility in their work schedule. They created an environment based on our love to travel and explore new things, while simultaneously providing a career path.

Also, under the benefits category, they list all of the different benefits offered during employment. They offer healthcare plans, parental leave, annual travel credits, healthy food, learning and development, and even paid volunteer work.

Will it reach the target talent?
I totally agree that this will reach its target talent, there is no doubt in my mind. The way the page was desgined is perfect to reach the attention of possible employees. And i think since people that are getting older and realizing they want a flexible scheulde, they will be interested.

Also, growing older also means you want to go out and experinece the things that you havent gotten to yet. Most people in their retirement years plan to travel, but it could earlier and easier than that with Airbnb. With the benefits offered you can be retiring and traveling at the same exact time.

Canva's home page will take you to exactly what you want done. They offer templates for Presentations, Social Media, Video, Print products, and much more that you can customize for. It's very straight to the point and easy to navigate. Though, to find the Careers page, it did require some digging. It can be found next to the search Canva bar with a small question mark inside of a bubble. Like most websites, it can be found at the bottom of the page under the Company tag.

Something that really stood out to me the most is how the employees are being portrayed as they're having so much fun. It allows people to take it as that Canva is a fun company to work with and probably used real photos.

On the upper left hand corner, they have a tab for why someone would want to work for Canva. I really do love the less is more because it's not overwhelming with information. Their EVP its a simple, yet strong five points. such as being apart of a powerful impact, millions of projects, work with nonprofit organizations, and learning so much more. If I was looking for a job, I would say this definitely would sell me!

The EVP of the company is about “Finding a better way”, they are obsessed with making the world better than before by allowing employees to be as creative and develop concepts they will stand by.

The website is rather easy to navigate between the pages. What caught my eyes was there was video gallery that pops right up on the main page of current employees, answering a huge selection of questions someone looking for a job may have. The career page covered all of Gartner’s EVP categories, displaying information about the company, rewards/benefits, future careers, leadership, and work life. They have a benefits and perks section that provides a lot of detail. It even provides a video if you don’t want to read it all with real life scenarios. They discuss how training goes, and even gives a step by step of their hiring process so you have an idea of how it works. Bonus, they provide interview tips with downloadable pdfs for you.

Overall, I think their career page is inviting, interactive and provides a wealth of knowledge. I think they hit the nail on the head with displaying everything of value they have to offer. I don’t think that the company will have no issues attracting talent. They have made exceptions clear from the role to the hiring process.

When looking at Saks Fifth Avenues career page the set up of the page sticks out to me the most. The page starts with bold writing that states “JOIN THE MOST INNOVATIVE TEAM IN LUXURY E-COMMERCE". As you begin to scroll you will see what the company is about and the company culture along with the range of benefits they would offer. You can view opportunities from both a link at the very top of the page, along with at the bottom.

The companies EVP does not come through all that clearly but it is subtly in the "our culture, our people" section. Here, the company states their mission and give multiple reasons why employees play an important role in withholding the companies mission. The page does give a list of benefits but they are not specific on what exactly they are as opposed to some other career pages I have seen in the past.

The page is kind of dry and simple with hardly any visuals. The page does use bright colors, so I think in this aspect it is appealing. As a potential applicant, I think I would like to see more pictures or videos of employees and their experiences as opposed to just models posing in clothes the store sells.

Would it attract the targeted talent?
Even though I think that this career page is a bit underwhelming I think that it would attract the target talent. A potential employee to Saks Fifth Avenue would probably be someone who loves fashion and is into luxury goods. With this, the benefits section lists employee discount first on top of all other benefits which means it is a very important to potential applicants. Also, the page states several times how Saks is a "luxury e-commerce platform" and this would be enticing aspect to anyone into luxury items.

EVP & Critique

Flagstar’s EVP speaks directly to the candidate. In my opinion it is very compelling. Their EVP gives a brief summary of the benefits, perks, and advantages that the employee will receive from the company. The website also explains, the culture of Flagstar, along with what the bank stands for. Their EVP statement of “Hard work is rewarding, and should be rewarded” speaks directly to candidates that feel their work and efforts were not being recognized previously. This will definitely compel a candidate to look further into the company and apply for a job.

Will it attract talent

I do believe that talent will be attracted to Flagstar. The company is strategically appealing to new talent by stating the different types of positions they offer, the opportunity for advancement, and some of the benefits that will be received. Flagstar’s speaks about the company’s success by showcasing that it has -been named one of the “Best and Brightest Companies to Work for" from 2017-2020. These types of recognition are helpful in attracting new talent.

Amazon’s career page is very organized. The site starts with where you are in your career path, they immediately give an option for students, as well as an option to select career opportunities in their fulfillment center, software development, or explore other opportunities. You can search openings by location or category. When selecting your preferences, there is also a clear option to look into benefits, which includes all information regarding savings programs, health insurances, maternity leave, time off, etc.

More information given for those interested includes their diversity and inclusion mission, employee safety, their commitment to sustainability, supporting small businesses, and more.

The career page for General Motors introduces the candidate to the organization's goals and forward-thinking direction it is heading. The GM vision is stated: "Our vision is a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion". They want to display their future plans for electric automobiles and their diverse workforce that employs over 160,000 around the world. There are pictures and links to the different kind of careers that one can make with GM.

All of the pictures on the first page show office spaces and a few of their products, but I don't think this reflects an automobile manufacturer in the best way. Most GM workers are in the technical and logistics part of the company, like manufacturing plants and warehouses, so I don't think showing off their office pictures accurately reflects the jobs people will be searching for.

GM does highlight the opportunities and development available for someone's career with the company, because there are so many different paths someone can choose when growing within a large corporation. The benefits are also briefly stated like paid holiday and vacation time, parental leaves, medical plans and vehicle discounts.

One thing that the career page does well is lets the candidate enter in the field they're interested in along with their current status such as student, recent grads, veteran, tradesman, or professional with experience. They can then dive into the list of career fields of interest such as management, manufacturing, engineering, financial and so much more. There's about two dozen of these fields listed that one can choose from.

After an option is chosen on the list you can be brought to a job listing page that shows actual available spots they're hiring for. The job listing and descriptions are available, along with where the location is. I checked a few job descriptions to see and they go into detail about what kind of work is required for the job. The benefits are also included but not too much detail is given. There is absolutely no information about pay which I think is unfortunate because so much other information is given.

Overall I don't think GM has the best career page that would interest me. There is a lot of emphasis on what the organization desires and not too much from the employee perspective. The pictures and video content don't fully represent a lot of their labor force and I think not showing pay is disappointing because that is a very important part of choosing a place to work for. What the site does well though is allowing the candidate to enter their status and field of interest easily, and the job listings related to what is entered is brought up and easily accessible. The job listings are also very detailed on what the tasks of the job are and the requirements needed to be considered.

The EVP of this company is exceptional and they are very transparent about what they offer. I love their culture and what they believe in; Their culture: “We prioritize the development of our crew members. We don’t pigeonhole crew members into “only running the register” or “only stocking the shelves”. Trader Joe's value their employees growth and wants to see them develop. The company even allows employees to create their own schedule for flexibility purposes.

The website is very easy to navigate. They make it very simple to find their EVP by clicking "what we offer" and it is very straight to the point. The fact that employees can create their own schedule, they offer 7% increase annually, job growth, etc. is very compelling.

I do believe the talent will be attracted to Trader Joe's. With everything they offer and the chance to grow within the company, this can be appealing to new talent and the talent they may already have. During these times, people are definitely looking for a little more extra money, a company that values their hard-work, and most of all a flexible schedule (especially for women with children).

EVP & Critique by Mitch Clark

The Fender EVP is essentially “inspiring every player at every stage” and with the goals of “making history within the music industry”. At first glance, I thought the webpage as a whole was lacking in detail, but I was wrong. They show you a small intro paragraph stating their mission, but then immediately list open positions they’re searching for. After this section, they go into far more detail about their benefits and their company culture. This section is where the most valuable information for potential employees is located. The benefits and the culture in 2021 are huge factors for the workplace and how desirable it is to work at. The final section did provide plenty of valuable information. However, I believe this information would’ve been better suited sooner on the web page in order for readers to not lose interest. I believe the focus on the benefits sections and the company culture are more important than listing the positions available within the company.

Will it reach the target talent?

Absolutely, I do believe it will reach the targeted talent for Fender. Fender is likely looking for musicians and people who are knowledgeable with instruments, and for those specific people, Yes, this EVP is effective. If fender is trying to diversify their workforce with the hiring of non-musicians, this EVP becomes less effective. Perhaps the goal shouldn’t be to generalize the search, for it is a music company and musicians are deemed more valuable, but it is worth noting. There are plenty of positions listed on the page that are clearly non-music related positions like HR, IT, and Accounting. I believe Fender missed an opportunity to represent those groups within their web page more clearly. As a whole, I believe Fender accomplishes their goals with this career page.

The EVP is very easy to access within this company. The company's goals are shown right upfront and show all the benefits. the first statement you see when you open the EVP is "We want talent like you!". This makes everyone feel valued and part of a team. The perks to their employees are shown directly such as compensation, diversity/ Inclusion and benefits. The information that is provided is very helpful and i think it is very helpful as it draws the people in and makes them want to apply for these positions that they have open.

Will it target the talent they are looking for?

Yes, It will target the people it is looking for. They are looking for hardworking and diverse individuals with talent. This makes their employees unique and very reliable. Having some prior experience with working in retail will make you more suitable for working as a customer service representative. The site could've been more successful if it did state specific tasks the employee could be doing. If applicants that do not like the tasks or do not feel they can do it will not be inclined to apply.

Based upon going directly to the company website it wasn't extremely easy to identify the EVP of the company, however, once you go to a specific job posting it is flooded with information. Initially there are a few paragraphs that state the mission of their company and how they work towards meeting and maintaining their mission. Below the job posting is where the mission becomes truly clear, "At Adidas we have a winning culture. But to win, physical power is not enough. Just like athletes out employees need mental strength in their game. We foster the athlete's mindset through a set of behaviors that we want to enable and develop in our people and that are at the core of our unique company culture – The 3CS: CONFIDENCE, COLLABORATION AND CREATIVITY." Speaking to the culture the company wishes and expects their employees to uphold.

The site continues on to express their expectations as well as their compensations and benefits they offer their employees.

Considering this position is for a Retail Team Leader, I think it shows to the dedication to the employees feeling welcome and working with a purpose and not just a retail job.

Will it attract talent?
Even though you have to go to the direct job posting to find the information regarding the companies EVP, I believe there is a nice balance of a compelling opening, expectations, as well as benefits. It makes it easy for a potential employee to determine if the cost of labor outweighs the benefits or if the company would be a good fit for them.

The site is also direct and "clean" to process, there isn't an overwhelming amount of pictures and bright colors, it's very professional, direct, and full of information, but almost calming as it doesn't seem too busy.

Another issue I noticed, is many people do not know TD Ameritrade is a partner with Charles Schwab. That information should be provided somewhere.

Will It attract young talent?

Charles Schwab can easily attract young and new talent.

I believe Apple does a great job at displaying the employment brand but does not display the EVP as well. The mission and values of the company are bold and compelling. Company values such as accessibility, sustainability and inclusion are all written in bold letters to inform candidates just what type of company they will be working for. This site makes me feel as if Apple truly does value its employees and helping them build a career within the company. There are many visual aids and testimonies throughout the site which brings a positive feeling while reading it. Other factors of EVP such as pay and benefits are not as prominently displayed and take more digging to find.

Will it reach its target talent?
I do believe this sight will reach its target talent for a few specific reasons. First, the website is extremely personable by having a "Join Us. Be You." quote upon entry. This is a great way to help potential candidates get a feel of Apple's company culture and if it is a good fit for them. Apple then adds a compelling video that truly shows their value of creativity. All of these factors combined creates a compelling career sight that I believe will help them find their target talent.

The PGA HQ EVP headline calls you to "Live The Dream". Followed by an EVP statement "Join a team of proud, passionate, and caring people that together share their diverse talents and backgrounds to serve our members and grow the game of golf. Being at the PGA of America means you are supported, respected, and appreciated for your contributions." I think this statement is a call to service. Serving the valued cause of growing the game of golf and feeling great about the contributions to the organization's members. Making a case that serving the members is intrinsically valuable and fulfilling. I find this EVP compelling because it appeals to the value and fulfillment gained by serving others. It also suggests that your contributions will always be valued and appreciated as you are an important part of the team. The careers page is also compelling as it shows a picture collage of happy team members both at work and away from work. Demonstrating value in the very positive Work Life Balance the organization promotes. The emphasis and importance of "The Team" really shines through. It also does a great job describing the work environment you can expect at the organization and from fellow employees.

Will it attract the the talent it intends to?

Yes, to go along with the call to service, the PGA also includes a very competitive benefits package. Offering Financial, Health & Wellness, Continued career education and advancement, and Flexible Work Life Balance. I believe the EVP combined with benefits offering will be very attractive to potential talent and should work well to find the types of individuals the company is looking for. This EVP sends a clear message about the types of individuals it looks to hire as well as those already employed in the organization.

Nintendo of America - Ayman Alarabi

EVP & Critique

In the case of Nintendo of America, I’m quite surprised with how substantive their Career page and EVP is. From my experience, most video game company career pages are more straight to the point and less welcoming. For example, the SEGA of America career page simply shows their job openings, and the duties and responsibilities that come with them, that’s it. The Nintendo career page, on the other hand, has its own dedicated page for benefits and perks.

Another thing that impressed me was another page called “Life at Nintendo” which focuses on the work environment and culture at the company. Furthermore, they even have a sophisticated search engine for searching for job openings to suit your needs, such as location, and job category.

In addition, the presentation and aesthetic of their career pages is appealing and easy to navigate. The pages are colorful and filled with interactive images, and are drizzled with essential bits of information without getting too complex with too many details. Also, I noticed that there are a few videos of Nintendo employees thrown in there to give it a more human element rather than just looking at a wall of text.

Will it attract the talent it intends to?

As far as appealing to talent that the organization needs, I think that Nintendo's career page does an okay job in doing so. Unfortunately, the video game industry faces a lot of warranted scrutiny due to the sheer amount of crunch time, sexism, and layoffs that it faces. While Nintendo is actually known in the industry to be quite exceptional in addressing these issues, the career page itself doesn't really do a good job in conveying that.

However, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t convey it at all. There is a dedicated page for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, which does highlight how Nintendo does address their stance on gender, sexuality, and race in the video game industry. It’s these things that people want to read and hear who are interested in working in the video game industry, which is why Nintendo, while missing a few important topics and issues, gets an "A" from me.

The career page is designed so well from just giving it a glance. It showcases a lot of images of people, quotes, inspirational sayings, videos, etc. This was all catching to the eye and was very enticing. It focused a lot about persona growth in and outside the company. People stated how much lululemon has changed them and how happy they were to be on the team.

Overall they alluded to what they're looking for in a worker from the information provided, which was very smart. Looking for people with drive for self improvement. They also listed their values which includes: personal responsibility, entrepreneurship, honesty, courage, connection, and fun.

The company did a great shop showcasing what they're looking for, and what they can offer their possible employees. They will defiantly attract the young candidates they'r clearly looking for. The candidate will learn a lot about the company from the video, pictures, and descriptions. This EVP will find the talent they're looking for!

EVP and Critique

EVP & Critique
For Shopify, the EVP is pretty straightforward and hits you right away without any scrolling "Shape the future of commerce, wherever you are". Along with the other sections of their page in big bold letters show "Grow Together" and "Let's make it about you" really show you that they are all about its employees. Who could blame them as Shopify makes its revenue directly from its employees and with some outside advertising. In each of these sections, Shopify explains to its current and future employees how they can help them and their future business adventures. The page is creative with a plain white background and green and black writing font scheme that pops and is very pleasing to the eye. Personally, I think this is a great way of trying to get your message across as to who you are as a company and how you promote your current and future employees in the workforce. There is a clear and cut direction on what kind of team you'd be joining and what the mission is in "Growing Together".

Will it attract talent?
This company is definitely here to stay and for a very long time as the EVP is very attractive and clear. The question is will it attract the talent it needs in order to thrive on its already succeeding business. I think it will 100%, the company itself supplies the entire platform for your selling necessities for when it comes to your products on their website. The website literally asks its employees to grow together as they understand that they need to have you as the employee thriving in order for the company itself to be successful. If you offer people to become as creative as they can be and be able to sell their products in loads then you will attract many talents in the online shopping industry.

Reading this, it sounds great but, actually working for Amazon is completely different (coming from a former Amazon employee). Now, different jobs probably have different experiences working for Amazon. As far as the delivery associate positions, they are underpaid and Amazon has unrealistic expectations for their employees

Rocket Companies is ranked #5 on the 2021 Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For. "Culture" and "Team" are two words you can come across frequently when navigating their career page. Detroit it a growing city in need of companies that will support it. Community involvement is a large feature of the Detroit-based company and I believe that this community involvement is just what the company needs in order to attract talent. The company markets towards high schools and colleges in the surrounding the community and sells its' inclusive culture and perks of creativity to potential candidates. I believe that the benefits this company provides are perfect for the talent the company wishes to attact.

Walgreens' career page is great and very well organized. The main page of their career page allows you to find jobs near you and even let's you select the area in which you are looking for a job, such as the pharmacy, in-store, corporate, and distribution. The career page has different tabs that you can click on to get a better understanding of their company, their goals, and even their benefits. All of the information is clear and precise and very well organized. The most attractive aspect of the career page is that they list benefits that are available for working at Walgreens and even cater to student's by offering internships and pharmacy education assistance. Ultimately, I think their career's page is very nice, easy to navigate, and attractive for potential employees.

Will it attract talent?
I do believe that it will attract talent because their career page is very clear and straight to the point, yet offers a great amount of detail without going over the top. On top of this, they explain what their company is and what they are about, their benefits, and even different opportunities that they offer to potential employees.

EVP & Critique
Google is a creative, highly-respected company. Google's career page is exquisite and offers a user-friendly, quick glance into the lifestyle a Google employee can expect. The company highlights its seemingly never-ending list of locations that are all equipped with resources designed to inspire innovation, creativity, and sense of community. Google's career page highlights how the company is diverse and offers excellent opportunities for students and people with disabilities.

Will It Attract Talent?
For being a company that strives for creativity and innovation, I expected more. The career page gets the company's point across that they are inclusive and diverse when hiring, but it does not do a great job of highlighting employee perks or benefits. The company does a good job of featuring their many locations and ability for employees to work from virtually anywhere, but the page does not do a great job of expanding on employee benefits. I believe that due how large the company is, Google will not have an issue with attracting talent. I believe that the company's reputation is enough of a reason for potential candidates to seek any position with the company. However, the company's career page does not do it justice, the company has a great opportunity to improve the career page and market their EVP's to potential candidates, the question is, do they need to make that investment due to how large the company already is?
