For Suica/PASMO, if Apple Pay is set up on iPhone, what seems to work is the following steps:

1. Open Settings > General > Language and Region

2. Change Region to Japan

3. Go back to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay

4. Click on Add Card and click on Transit Card (the exact wording may be slightly different in uk) 

5. Choose PASMO or Suica (either is fine)

6. Add money from Apple Pay e.g. ¥5000 Yen (or just ¥1000 and top up easily at train station or convenience store when in Japan)

Option 2 is a physical PASMO passport card that lasts 28 days - provided for tourists that can be bought at the airport on arrival if they show their passport. Available at:

• Narita Airport Terminal 1･2･3 at "SKYLINER & KEISEI INFORMATION CENTER"

• Haneda Airport Terminal 3 at the entrance on the second floor OR at Keikyu Tourist Information Center (Haneda Airport Terminal 3)

• Haneda Airport Terminal 1･2 at Information center
