Islamic pottery has been inspired by many cultures throughout early periods of time. They used pottery as luxury ceramics and made exotic gifts because of  their elegant and rich aesthetic look. Islamic pottery was heavily influenced by Chinese ceramics and pottery from the Byzantine Empire. When comparing the Pear-Shaped Vase from the Islamic to the Jar from the Chinese, you can see that the pottery has a shiny, glazed look to it. Pottery from the Chinese was imported from Islamic merchants and was cherished by them. They were also inspired by the type of materials and patterns that the Byzantines used.
