As a student that is taking both Spanish & German @NW, I believe that you should take German because the culture and language itself is unique in its own way. The German curriculum and D219 are well-established and chronologically stable enough for anyone to understand with any level of understanding. Even for the Honors level, the staff here make it clear that they'll help you succeed. They have fun activities going on frequently which make sure the students don't get bored and make sure they're engaged.

I am a junior at Niles West, and I have taken German for all 3 years so far and I wouldn't recommend any other language class. The class is fun and not too demanding, even at the honors level. The teachers are very passionate about their class and what they teach. Sometimes you make food and do fun crafts. Overall I would highly recommend German for any incoming Freshman at Niles West or Niles North.

My previous comments were me when I was a freshman in January, now I'm a Junior. I am still taking German, and I just finished my first semester of German 3. It was a great semester as we experienced German culture in real life. We attended the Christkindlmarket in downtown and it was a very fun field trip. If you're wondering if German 3 is the same workload as the other German classes it is, which is very light.

I can confidently say that German is one of the better classes you can take at Niles West. The material and work isn't extremely hard to the point where you get stressed out easily, but you still learn everything you are supposed to. Not everything is pen and paper, which makes you actually enjoy activities. The language itself is also useful if you want to travel or make things look good on a college or job application.

Hi! I am now in my fourth year of taking German, and I am very happy with my decision to take this course all throughout high school. As a Freshman, I was initially hesitant of taking a language I've never spoken before, but I quickly learned that it is perfectly okay because that is why you are taking German class--to learn. German class is a very supportive and fun environment, and in my opinion a very unique class where you can genuinely grow not as a student but also as an individual. I highly recommend taking German if you want to partake in the many fun activities and opportunities (both within and outside the classroom) the course has to offer.

I am a Sophomore at Niles West. If you don't have experience or have never taken German I recommend it. This class is not hard and you get a lot of new vocabulary every week. By the end of the school year you'll be surprised how much German you have learned. Not only that but the teachers are amazing and make the class so much more fun. If you have German in the morning it definitely wakes you up and changes your mood for the rest of the day. I do not regret taking German at NW. I've had an amazing experience, not to mention the environment is super welcoming and friendly. A plus to this class is that by the end of high school you'll know enough so that when you travel you can communicate with others. I love this class and if I were you I would really consider taking it.

Now that I am a sophomore and taking German for my second year, I am so happy. I took honors German in both years of high school and I love it. German class is honestly so easy and fun. Throughout middle school I always had to take Spanish. Going into high school I was super interested in taking a different language for an elective. I ended up taking Honors German and I think it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. The is super easy and fun, it opens up opportunities for you especially as a freshman.
