There are various skills I have already developed in filmmaking.
One skill i have is Editing and selecting different clips to tell a story in the right perspective. An example of this in use is with my Emma mould music video , i used the visuals to tell the story through the eyes of Emma Mould and how Bryan impacted her life and the various pubs and bars he performed in.

The filmmaking skills i don't feel confident in is managing lighting to create a well lit set and location. i want to learn more on how to set up lighting in a challenging situation. an example of this could be with wasp and how they light the children faces outside but still keep the scene dark to show the harsh conditions the children are in as well as there unclean faces . In my opinion i am not as confident with reflections of light and managing the differences between yellow light and white light on faces so they are kept to the conventions of the film or scene.

A Challange i could set for myself for my time at BFI would be to be to. Invole my self more in the light set, set up while also observing how my peers use the lighting to create a scene what sticks to the conventions and genre of the short film. another way i can challenge my self is by asking questions during the setions or in between during the breaks as this would set me up to be more of an asset to the production/short film. in my opinion i could also push my knowledge more by researching outside of the BFI course by watching videos and Breakdown. I have linked an example Below.

there are verious sencrious and challanges i will have to consider during my time at BFI with my challenge. An example of this is if during the class we dont get time to talk about the convetions of lighting and how to set up the lighing in the correct way. another example would be if we are running low on time and we dont have time to be shown how to set up the perfect lighting for a certain scene. In my opinion if we prepare well before the production i do not think any of these scanrios will happen.

I think this will be a very noticeable way for me to complete my challenge. success to me would look like me being able to manege various lighting conditions and being able to be compatible while also being use full in these sitions. An example of this could be keeping one side of a persons face more lit than the other side while still keeping both sides visible creating a more dynamic scene

I have never kept diary as i normal judge my performance on the content that is delivered and how happy the client is with the content delivery . I could change this by keeping a diary of pictures with titles on how to set up different lighting in different situations. An example of a situation where i have relied on the feedback of the photos is with my GIN photo shoot for a company i had to go over verious shots and change them and eventually i perfected my work and let the client happy, now my work (photo) is there flag ship during gin conventions and the first thing when they purchase a bottle (large gin bottle on right hand side).
I will show i am working towards the challenge by keeping track of my progress with dated photos and look at the changes through progress

I watched Maleficent mistress of evil / 2019 Directed by Joachim Rønning. This Film was shown at various cinemas around the country and world but i watched it at the Light Cinema, Three days after the release. i have watched various movies at this cinema. i particularity like it because it is a relaxed cinema with spaced seats allowing any viewer to recline and relax without being conscience of any one behind or in front. The main thing that i thought was unexpected was the directer; Joachim Rønning. Joachim doesn't have a lot of experience compared to the first director of Maleficent / 2014 Robert Stromberg who has over 96 VFX credits compared to joechims 0. I thought the VFX really brought this film to life from the Green screen visual effects to the grand design of the castle and landscapes, this is saying something considering Joachim has compete with Robert production designer role in Avater / 2019 (what still hasn't aged).
I honestly couldn't find anything wrong with this film is had all the write attributes of a great movie. i have learnt that from seeing this film that given the right team any director can create a great movie if they have the right mindset and vision.

Overall, I was able to meet my arts challenge as I did light for the first scene and I was able to perfect and understand how it worked on set as well as my role in the crew. I stuck to my action plan and got the gaffer role. I found that the set up went well and i listened to the director to how they wanted the scene to look and change the lighting to suit there vision. The most challenging part was keying in the light and making sure everyone was ok with it while also changing the light to suit the time of day. i have learn't a new skill in my art challenge how to use lighting properly to suit different lighting conditions and set conditions. I also branched into sound a-lot through out the shoot as this had been my downfall in a-lot of my own-work as i didn't have an understanding of the right levels and equipment. So i put my self in the deep end and tried all of the sound roles and i really enjoyed it, this intern allowed me to look into and apply for a Post Production Course at university for sound. In my opinion i would not do anything different as i enjoyed the experience and i have learnt something from doing this task. My next art challenge i am doing is to make a short film by myself with my own crew.

Oliver Taylor-Holmes
05/12/19
Finn's Arts challenge is to learn how to use an industry standard film camera and learn how incorporate different shots with fluid movements. Finn completed and was happy with the shot types as they where aesthetically pleasing with a wide array of camera angles and shots, this was used to push the emotions from the character to the viewer. My only advice for Finn is not to set out for an aim to use industry standard equipment and try to make films on lower budget cameras.

By: Finn Chadwick
Date: 06/1219
Oliver's arts award challenge was to develop and understanding of how to use lighting effectively when shooting a scene and how different strengths and colours create different meaning. I believe that he was achieved his challenge effectively as he was gaffer on set a lot and learnt how to use the lighting equipment to satisfy the directors vision and give the film a realistic look according to the time of day that it is set. This is clearly evident in the final cut of the film as lighting is consistent throughout and it looks aesthetically pleasing. He has no identifiable areas for development.

The only problem what was identified by one of the readers was the occasional spelling mistake.

I agree with the feedback as everyone noted all things about the leaflet that they like and what they understood

One of the parts that worked well during the project was the way we delegated a page to each person and they picked the roles they were best aqunited with. This worked well as all the information was true and tested.

i didn't find that any other parts of the project didn't work well and everyone's communication worked well to keep the project flowing.

I do not have anything that i would do differently and i thought that everyone worked well and came up with a leaflet that worked.

On the project we set out to inform and educate the public on film process and the roles involved. The challenging part of the project was writing my part of the leaflet as i had to remember and research my role in sound. Nothing changed with are project plan expect how we presented are information. I enjoyed creating my own page on something i have an interest in and what i want to do in the future. The result of the project was a book/leaflet being made on roles and the production process of film we learnt skills like communication to figure at what roles everyone has picked and what they are writing about. There are two parts of are orignal plan that worked well one was everyone figureing out there roles
