You smell something cooking in the kitchen. Your mom is making dinner and you run downstairs to see if it is ready. Dinner is ready and you want to help clean up the kitchen. You pick up a pot and it's burning hot because your mom just turned the stove off. You drop the pot and you get a first-degree burn. How should you take care of it?

Get a parent or guardian to help flush the burned area with cool water and continue applying cold water until the pain goes away. Use a gauze to pat the injury dry. Apply a bandage to the injury. You may need to elevate the injury to reduce swelling. Do not break open blisters and do not apply cotton, ointments, grease, powders, grease, or similar substances to the area.
