Nearing the end of WW1, Schindler became a citizen of the new Czechoslovak Republic. He took on multiple jobs such as business, education, and government. Schindler later joined the Czech army and soon joined the Nazi party. Instead of being a wartime recruiter, he rescued 1000+ Jews from deportation to Auschwitz, a concentration camp. Schindler owned a factory where he hired people for work, and so when they were hired, they wouldn't be sent to the camp. This is how he managed to save Jews. After the resistance, Schindler went broke after spending everything he made during war on bribed to Nazi officials to save as many Jews. He died of liver failure on Oct 9, 1974.
