Appeal to authority is a red flag. its when people use the guise of an authoritative figure, or person of occupation to make people believe what they say because they look like they know what they are talking about even though they are just wearing a costume.

Below is news paper segment showing a doctor smoking camels cigarettes. now we all know smoking is bad for you but back then all the problems probably had not become public or were not known yet. That aside this is a way of making people think "well hey if the doc is smoking them they mustn't be that bad". using the image of a doctor to bring ease to the unsuspecting buyers

the image below is a depiction of Human sacrifice is a practice that has been around for a very long time and unfortunately still happens sometimes in this day an age. Sacrificing the life of another to gain or appease some higher power. The Aztec, Romans, China, Native, All are some examples of civilizations that performed these acts.

Confirmation bias is when we only see the things that we want to see or that go along with what we believe in. like when you are doing research on something you believe to be true, but only paying attention to the sources that support it and ignoring the vast amount of information that disproves it.

Below is a comic strip that shows the idea of conformation bias. you know about something but in your head you already made up your mind so when you go and do your research you only see the things that agree with it, even though there are many more sources that would say other wise. everybody should remember to keep an open mind and do their research properly

The red herring is having information thrown at you to distract you from the the main topic at hand. The term comes from using a fish to throw a hunting hound of the trail of the target.

below is the picture the Illuminati. Its connection to this is based on conspiracy theories. how the people who make all these theories usually reach out so far and look way to deep into things that really don't have any connection to the main topic and that is what they focus on. They almost lure themselves away with a red herring they put down themselves.

Proof by verbosity is when some one is trying to prove something and they have all this evidence that supports their clam. so this overwhelming evidence make people believe that it has to be true.

Connection:

Big foot in my opinion is a good example of proof by verbosity. There is so much "evidence" out there stating that big foot is real, so much so that there are cult followings even expeditions to try and find big foot. but when you think about it if he/she were real I am fairly certain he would be found by now.

The picture Below is Abrus Precatorius. This plant is most known for its seed which are used as beads in percussion instruments. An invasive weed plant in tropical regions. the seeds it bears are a bright red with some black. Oh right also the seeds are deadly enough that eating just one is more then enough to kill a person due to its high content of abrin. So just because its all natural dose not mean its necessarily good for you.

So this is the thought processes that just because you don't like something means you are right about it. Even though your not a scientist you gain enough of a following of people listening to you that it becomes a moral or ethical problem. even though there is proof against your claim. the quote " good science is done in the labs, not the courts or protests. its not a cultural campaign." is one I agree with.

Anti-Vaccination is the idea that getting vaccinated is somehow bad for you and is said to cause autism in children. Now there is proof that there is no connection of this being a thing but there is so many people who believe that it does that no on is looking at the actual facts anymore and all they are hearing is that its causing problems when in reality vaccination are doing nothing but helping people from contrasting illness.
