The great awakening was a religious move, net led by the articulate George white field that had a big impact on colonial resistance. Because most people converted from Anglican , the church of England, so most stopped paying Anglican taxes. Because of this resistance to Anglican taxes and the Anglican Church as a whole it was clearly a spark to the American revolution.

Yes, religion played a major role in the American movement towards independence. One way in which religion played a major role in independence is that religion set an equal field for everyone. Also, religion offered a set of moral penalty for resistance to the British, which assured average American colonist that revolution was justified by God. Another way in which religion played a major role in the movement towards independence is that it turned the act of rebellion and revolution into a righteous cause.

Religion was a significant factor toward independence because movements like the Enlightenment and the Great Awakening had a great impact on colonists. The Enlightenment was a religious movement that promoted rational thinking based off math and science. Desists rejected super natural interventions, which would motivate them to start a revolution to protect their natural rights, Life, Liberty, and Property, one of the four main principles of the Enlightenment. Of these four principles, another one is to progress improvement in society, which is what the colonists would be doing by declaring independence from England. The Great Awakening was a religious revival that swept across the colonies. In this religious movement, individuals strived for a mystical union with God to achieve salvation. Because this revival appealed to hearts over minds, priests were then selected based on conversion experience, not their knowledge of the bible. This caused for a questioning and undermining of authority, not only of priests of of the British crown. This movement also united people through diversity of gender, class, and ethnicity.

Yes, religion was a significant factor in the movement towards
independence because movements like the Enlightenment and the Great Awakening had a significant impact on colonists. The First Great Awakening democratized religion by redressing the balance of power between the minister and the congregation. Rather than listening demurely to preachers, people spoke out had enthusiastic emotions. The Enlightenment stressed the personal use of freedom over the deference to authority. Early American colonists were affected by this in that they were fleeing authorities who attempted to control what religious traditions they could choose. Such concepts and habits were a necessary foundation for the American Revolution.

Religion did, in fact, play a significant role in the persuasion of the colonists and the unification of the patriots against the crown. Patriot leaders such as the Thomas Paine would justify several ideas with biblical references because not only was it effective in a highly religious society, but it was also understandable to the layman. This "mutual language" created the unification that would allow these ideas to spread and seep into a colonist's mind more effectively. Since the Revolutionary War was mental as much as it was physical, this would essentially determine the colonist's position.

Religion was an extremely important factor in the movement towards American independence from Britain. The Great Awakening, specifically, played a great role in colonial independence. This Great Awakening was personally empowering, democratizing movement that turned the colonists alway from Britsh imperialism. New Light preachers of this movement preached about having a personal relationship with God. People no longer had to obey orders from clergy members and take everything they preached as truth. This caused colonists to question their political rule, too. New Lights also taught people to follow their personal emotions and feelings. The Great Awakening led colonists to realize that they could do what they wanted and be independent from Britain.
