         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Time line:&nbsp; 1789-present<br>Place:&nbsp; Virginia, South Carolina<br>Introduction: We've been looking at our families and how they have changed over time.&nbsp; Their stories can tell us a lot about the past and even our future.&nbsp; This book I'm going to share with you is about the author's family stories.&nbsp; The title of the book "Show Way," is an artifact that gets passed down from generation to generation.&nbsp; What do you think a "Show Way" is?&nbsp; I'm not sure myself.&nbsp; Sometimes authors don't tell us directly, they like to make us think more and so they leave us clues.&nbsp; As we go on with the story, ask yourself, "What is a Show Way?"&nbsp; we're going to infer, or in other words, pick up clues to what the author might want us to think more deeply about. &nbsp;<br>Questions:&nbsp;<br>"How do you know the Show Way is important to the author?"<br>"Has the Show Way changed for the author over time?"<br>"What could be your 'Show Way'"</div>]]></description>

The Homestead act enabled anyone to settle in the west for free. The Muldie family moved there in hopes of finding a new life for a carpenter father and his three kids.
