Read: 3/02/17
Genre:Fiction 1960
Age/Audience K-4th, Special Ed
This book will always be one of my favorite of all times so I couldn't leave it off the list. The story starts off with a grumpy character whose name was not given. Sam-I-Am takes this character through a series of events to get him to try green eggs and ham. Provides rhyming words like,” in a box with a fox, on the train in the rain, and in the house with a mouse. The images are bright and eye-catching. The rhyming words make the book memorable and very catchy.
Teaching Points: Create sentence strips using the rhyming words directly from the book and some additional pair of rhyming words that have different beginning sounds and same ending. Make sure rhyming cards have pictures present so children can still identify the words even if unable to read. Allow children to pick out the pair of words that rhyme together and place on a chart across from each other.Create a chart and get children to states a food they dislike and why. Next compare the difference and explain to children everyone isn’t going to like the same things and that’s okay.
