Truman established that the United States would provide political, military and economic assistance to all democratic nations that are against communism.<br>*Marshall Plan<br>The Marshall Planwas the Truman Administration's plan to rebuild war-torn Europe in order to prevent the spread of communism, facilitate global trade and free markets, and encourage European peace.<br>*Cuban Missile Crisis<br>During the Cuban Missile Crisis, leaders of the U.S. and the Soviet Union engaged in a tense, 13-day political and military standoff in October 1962 over the installation of nuclear-armed Soviet missiles on Cuba, just 90 miles from U.S. shores.</div><div>* Containment<br>Containment was a<strong> United States </strong>policy using numerous strategies to prevent the spread of communism abroad. </div><div><br><br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div> *Iron Curtain<br>The notional barrier separating the former Soviet bloc and the West prior to the decline of communism that followed the political events in eastern Europe in 1989.<br>* What did Stalin say about free elections after WWII?<br> Stalin did not allow free elections to take place in Eastern Europe and instead moved to install puppet regimes loyal to the Soviet Union throughout the region.<br>*Warsaw Pact<br>The Warsaw Pact was a treaty signed in Warsaw, included the Soviet Union, Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria as members. The treaty called on the member states to come to the defense of any member attacked by an outside force and it set up a unified military command under Marshal Ivan S. Konev of the Soviet Union.</div>]]></description>

The Bay of Pigs Invation was an attempt made by the CIA of the U.S. to overthrow Fidel Castro using Cuban exiles that fled the country when Fidel Castro came to power.&nbsp;<br>The Berlin Airlift - Soviets placed a blockade on the allied sector of Berlin to starve the population into Soviet alliance. The blockade was a soviet attempt to starve out the allies in Berlin in order to gain supremacy. The blockade was a high point in the cold war, and it led to the berlin airlift. The allied response was a unbelievably massive air supply- flying night and day to feed the city.</div>]]></description>

The soviet Union could not complete it because of their budget.<br>*Who won the space race?<br>Most people agree that the space race ended on July 20, 1969, when Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon for the first time so the U.S won.<br>*What events were important during the space race?<br>October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik 1, the world’s first artificial satellite.<br>After the launch of Sputnik 1 and 2, the United States stepped up in its efforts to launch its own artificial satellite and on January 31, 1958.<br>The Apollo 11 spacecraft took off from the Kennedy Space Center on July 16, 1969. &nbsp;</div>]]></description>
