This is the part where the soldiers have been bursting in the houses in the neighborhood and looting what’s valuables the family might possess. When the soldiers come in, one makes a wrong assumption and is humiliated in front of the Jewish family.
I chose this quote because it is very significant to the plot of the story. It is significant in the way that it highlights the beginning of the mistreatment of the Jews and the beginning of the Holocaust.

This is the part where Alfons is describing the early years of his life and the way in which he grew up. I chose this particular quote because it struck me without horror because the children at least, were raised not knowing what came before the Nazis and grew up with their life centered around the Nazis. This is the part where Alfons is describing the mark that Hitler left upon the young men and women of Germany at the time. I chose this scene because it is very important. It is important because it shows a reflection into the past and helps the reader understand that then, the people who supported the Nazis were proud of themselves. It allows the reader to dive deeper into the minds of those certain characters.
