<title>Indigenous, Nature Learning, &#39;Forest&#39; Schools in SA: A contextually viable alternative system of education or an unrealistic dream? by Kerryn Voortman</title>

<description>Do you think, given the contextual realities and challenges of the South African education system, that nature learning/forest schools would be a viable alternative education system? given the huge amount of learners in South Africa, not in formal schooling, and utilizing the traditional ways of passing down knowledge in the African cultures, could a more experience-based, child-centered indigenous form of education meet the needs of South African Learners?</description>

<title>The importance of real life experience is so underestimated in SA. Outdoor play and experiential learning should be written into the curriculum. The challenge is getting children out of the formal classroom setting when teachers have so many measures and outcomes to meet.</title>

<title>Wow, I am so impressed and hopeful that this could be a possibility in South Africa. Thank you for the effort and well informed motivation you have given. I have seen such schools in Sweden and was also so impressed with the independence and confidence of the children involved. In our school we have only an hour of Free Choice activities although I am happy that creative open ended play and construction is an important part. ECD in South Africa will benefit enormously through this work.</title>
