"Trial courts are the places where the truth comes out about whether someone has committed a crime or has caused some sort of damage to someone else’s reputation, property, or body" (McGraw-Hill). An appeal comes after the trail. An appeal is a process in which cases are reviewed and a official change in a decision could be made.

Describe the trial process and the importance of juries in the U.S. legal system.

A trail begins with an opening statement from the plaintiffs attorney or prosecutor, depending on the type of case. Then it is followed by an opening statement by the defendants attorney. Next, the prosecutor and the defendant have direct and cross examinations. This is where they try to figure out what actually happened by disproving each other (McGraw-Hill). A closing statement is made by both attorneys. The Jury is made up of "a group of citizens who are sworn to give a verdict based on evidence presented to them in a court. In jury trials, the judge instructs the jury as to the law involved in the case and the jury renders a judgment" (McGraw-Hill). At the end a verdict is made based on the Jurys decision.
