After Jonas leaves the community, he wants the world to know how he feels about sameness and the community’s way of life.

The Ceremony of Twelve

Our community didn't have any serious problems whatsoever. One of the biggest events that kept us tranquil was The Ceremony of Twelve. The Ceremony of Twelve is ,whereas, when we turn into a Twelve we are assigned our jobs for the rest of our life by the Council of Elders, who've been meticulously observing us since we were little Ones. We're supposed to feel proud and grateful that our jobs had been so meticulously chosen to our liking and skills but I just feel like that a part of our childhood and life had been decided for us, or taken away.

LOVE. The memory and emotion of love is what gave me the courage and motivation to take baby Gabriel with me and escape to Elsewhere. Love is one of the most warm and wonderful feelings I've ever felt. When I was still in the community, when I received the memory of love, I wanted to share it with my friends and family unit. To show them what a marvelous feeling it was. But, when I had asked my parents, "Do you love me?", they chastised me and told me the word was so meaningless that it was almost obsolete. I didn't understand what they meant so I didn't believe it. We should be allowed to remember. We should be able to express how we feel in emotions not feelings. Because emotions are more deeper, they're apart of experiencing life as it is. What's the point of living if you can't feel?
