A great man/woman is someone who have ruled, conquered, and achieved great feats. Now, with the popularity of social media the definition of a great person has changed. Many people who are considered great people in our generation are celebrities. With the rise of social media it has now become even easier to become famous. Celebrity is a popular culture phenomenon surrounding a well-known person. A person who obtains celebrity status does not necessarily need to have accomplished anything significant beyond being widely recognized by the public. These celebrities also have significant influence over their fans and followers. Technological developments in mass media have contributed to a rise in celebrity culture. In the 19th and early 20th century, newspapers and radio broadcasts were the ones to bring fame to people who they deemed worthy. Now, anyone can use the internet to cultivate a following. This allows almost anyone to become a great man/woman. Because there are so many great men and women, there is now greater controversy over if the person is truly a great man or woman. The internet used to be used by the military in transmitting important information. But as the internet became more and more popular in the last 80s early 90s, the use of the internet has changed to things such as online podcasts, and online dating sites.
Entertainment used to be face to face interactions. In the 80s, people used to go to bars and enjoy alcohol and enjoy a good time with friends. They are affordable and all ages friendly since people from different classes could afford. However, ever since the rise of the internet age in the 90s, the amount of money people spend on entertainment has just increases non stop. For example, data shows that teenagers spend over $141 billion a year and it has been growing ever since. The cost of entertainment has increased.
These forms of entertainment are different from traditional forms of entertainment in many different ways. For example, people used to meet people face to face through interactions with different people, but ever since the Internet age, people could meet new people through the "net" (quoted from the Internet education video).
Nonetheless, the rise of the internet leading to the development of new forms of entertainment might not be everybody's cup of tea. Some older people might enjoy the type of entertainment that they are used to. But younger generations might start to enjoy and understand them and soon start developing a habit in the social medias such as Instagram and Youtube that we have now.

How has the internet impacted how family members interact with one another?

Answer:
When the internet first became available to the general public, it's advocates claimed that it would improve communications through the creation of a "virtual community that offered rich new forms of human contact" (Source 1). However, it soon became evident (and was proven through a study conducted in 2000) that face-to-face interaction and interaction with family members was negatively impacted by an increase of screen time. Clearly, the more time spent on the internet results in an increase of isolation and distance from family members. An article from Maclean's expressed people's opinions that people felt more connected to the global community, through things like email and TelNet (a service that let people connect their computers to each other and communicate), however the time that was spent communicating online reduced real-life interaction. Additionally, children raised with the internet are increasingly taught to communicate digitally rather than face-to-face, which results in poor communication skills within their homes/home life.

The convenience of Internet access to information has caused people to stay in their homes more often, thus preventing them from going out to do physical activities, enjoying the fresh air, and communicating with the neighbourhood in greenspace settings. For children, it's easy to surf the Internet at home than going outdoor to play in the nature which most of the times requires parents' supervisions. This reduced interaction between the children and the natural environment causes consequences such as the nature deficit disorder --- "a condition that renders children devoid of outdoor play, disconnected from nature". Data example: "The proportion of Canadian kids who play outside after school dropped 14% over the last decade."

The internet has allowed feminists to come together and communicate ideas regarding this topic more effectively, and easily. However, it also perpetuates an idealistic view of how women should look/act. For example this defeats some key feminist concepts of equality between men and women. Most famous women online have gained this popularity through stereotypical images of what women should look like, and what roles they should play (e.g.. body image, typical 'women' professions, lifestyle etc.). This highly influences the younger generations who look up to these people, therefore effecting the feminist movement of pushing women to equally dominate in important roles governed by a greater percentage of men then women.
