In the story, The One and Only Ivan, it is told in the first person. Or in the perspective of Ivan. He is a gorilla who has been held in a display case, for people to watch him for almost his entire life. In the case Ivan pretty much only has one thing which is a t.v. After the owner of the mall found out that Ivan could draw he gave him a lot of paper and crayons so he could draw some pictures for the gift shop so people could by them. As some of us might tell, all the people that are watching him can take their perspective of this story but, Ivan is the only one that can tell us his feeling, and how his life really goes inside the case. I think that is why the author decided to put the perspective of the book in Ivans thoughts. Ivan after all is the one who the story is about so the author would most likely have us feel all the things that Ivan feels. Also when people act or play a part authors/directors try to put us in the mind of the main characters mind so we can see what they are trying to tell us. The author always puts us in the perspective us the main character just so we can feel what they are feeling and so we can see how his/her life is going. The person who wrote the story really knows the characters feeling so that’s why he/she decided to put the perspective in Ivan.

In ivans life a lot of people might think that he would be lonely but he is not, he has all of his friends there for him. He does have a sad life sometimes but his friends are always there to keep him company. Ivan does have 2 best friends in the story: stella, and bob. They have been with him for forever, or at least that’s what it seems like. Stella is really nice and has a really good memory. She remembers times even before the circus. She is one of the oldest and very wise. Bob is a little bit crazy and some say insane or he just seems to act like that. He is a really good friend and he is always there for his Ivan. A little bit later Ruby comes into the storey and then sadly later stella dies. They all seem to to come together as best friends and their bad times actually brought them closer together. Even though their lives aren’t perfect they get by as really good friends, and with a little bit of loss in their lives they come out almost like one team. You know Ivan really seems lonely in the beginning but over time you learn that he has really great friends that are there for him and that he is there for. Stella, Bob, and Ruby are probably the best friends that Ivan can ever have in a lifetime. The book really shows us that Ivan is not lonely and he has amazing friends right there with him.
