Egues in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is the father of Hermia. He is strict and follows the tradition that everyone had back then which is for their daughters to obey their father's every wish including marriage. Egues is determined to ensure Hermia marries Demetrius, the man he has chosen for her. And if she refuses he is willing to enforce the law's penalty of death or lifelong chastity. This character highlights the expectations placed on women during the Elizabethan time.

Important quotes from Egues:

"Full of vexation come I, with complint/Against my child, my daughter Germia./Stand forth, Demetrius. My noble lord,/This man hath ny consent to marry her(1.1.23-25)-> Mentioning the guy who he is forcing her daughter to marry.

Fun fact about Egeus: He is kinda the reason why everything happens, by not letting his daughter marry the guy she desires and loves.
