Scientific Name: Melopsittacus undulatus
Habitat: Scrublands, Woodlands, Grasslands. Domestic.
Endangered Status: Least Concern, not endangered
Classification: Aves
Lifespan: 7-9 years
Diet: Seeds, most fruits and vegetables. They prefer leaf-like veggies such as lettuce and spinach.
Budgerigars or Parakeets are a common domestic pet around the world, they rank as the 3rd most common pet after dogs and cats. The popularity comes from the ease of taking care of them as they are not very demanding animals. However, if there are some things they need to live happily those would be: Companion, either from humans or other budgies. A decently-sized cage where they enough space to fly around and stretch. A clean cage with clean recipients and toys, and being in a well ventilated place that is not too exposed to the sun and it's not near cookware. Parakeets are very social, and they like interacting not only with other budgies, but with enough trust, humans too. They're relatively easy to domesticate in comparison to other birds. They also breed quite easily, as they lay up to 6 eggs per nesting and they hatch in about 2-3 weeks. They're also very curious birds, and they like making a lot of noise. However, pay attention that they're not making TOO much noise, as it can also mean they're not comfortable with something.
