We all know that a major part of Iraq's revenue comes from their oil industry. Before the Gulf War it made up 60% of their GDP and 95% of their foreign trade. Then when we put an oil embargo on them their oil production dropped to about 10% they were averaging around 3.5 million barrels a day than that number took a dive to 350,000 barrels a day. The 1996 UN OFF program let them resume the production of oil but under poor management the oil industry continued to suffer.
https://www.cia.gov/library/reports/general-reports-1/iraq_wmd_2004/chap2_annxD.html

Most of Syrian jobs come from the agriculture industry. This is not surprising because the agriculture makes up for most of Syria's source of revenue. Syria's unemployment has changed since 2006. The percentage of unemployment in 2006 war around 9%. This number has gone up due to events in Syria. Now that number is around 15%. That number is bound to rise the government is in a bad position also the regime war that is going on hurts that number. Also workers are leaving Syria due to bombings and attacks on civilians by their own government. The most recent one was in 2017. http://www.tradingeconomics.com/syria/unemployment-rate

People in Syria don't want Bashar al-Assad as the president, the Al-Assad's family has been there since 1971, and want a new government. In 2011, forces joined together to protest the government. The government used violence to quiet the protesting. Since then there has been militias formed and has turned to a battlefield in Syria. Syrian's who don't want to be part of the war are refugees. A drought from 2006-2010 made families to move the cities and poverty was huge. Russia bombing and U.S. helps Isis control the country in the long run.
https://www.britannica.com/event/Syrian-Civil-War
